From the JVFOA webpage:
Some of the family names in the descendants includes Barnes, Barrett, Batchelor, Brantley, Bunn, Cook, Dean, Equals, Ferguson, Gardner, Garlington, Harrelson, Hart, Joyner, Minshew, Odom, Perry, Pittman, Pope, Powell, Ricks, Storey, Strickland, Threadgill, Westray, White, Whitfield, Worrell, Yeargin and related families.
"William Gaston" may be the son of one of his listed brothers if some of the trees are correct, but dates are sketchy on most. More research needed and it may mean purchasing another book. Sigh....my genealogy bookcase is filling fast.
So I went back to Joseph Vick, Sr., of Lower Parish and am working my way down. through the book:
Children of Joseph Vick, three proved, three probable, born in Isle of
Wight County:

Joseph Vick of Lower Parish
1. LUCy2, b. ca. 1674; d. before 1735, probably in Isle of Wight
County, Virginia. She m. THOMAS PARKER about 1700, but
apparently had no children. Her marriage to Parker is inferred
from the sale of a tract ofland on the Beaver Dam Branch of the
King Sake Swamp given to her father by Hodges Councill on 20
Dec. 1675. On 10 Jan 1735/36 Richard Vick and Thomas
Parker sold the tract to Robert Johnson II with Hardy Councill
acknowledging that it was a gift to Lucy. The appearance of
Parker would imply that he as her husband was her surviving
heir at law; Richard was heir under terms of the gift. 16 A Thomas
Parker left a will in Isle of Wight County dated 30 January 1735,
but there is no corroborating evidence that this is the same person.
ii.RICHARD, b. ca. 1685; m. (1) SARAH [ ]; m. (2) MARTHA
WOODARD.
iii.JOHN, b. ca. 1687; m. CATHERINE [ ].
iv.ROBERT, b. ca. 1690; m. SARAH [ ].
v.JOSEPH, b. ca. 1692; m. MARGARET MAYO.
vi.WILLIAM, b. ca. 1695; m. ELIZABETH [ ].
Roberts is showing another wife besides Sarah - Martha Mounger and William Gaston along with two others are attached to her.
Both Polly and Josiah do not fit dates of William Gaston as siblings, but who knows? Back to the book to see if I can find them and where they all may go for they do not appear to be here.
From Joseph Vick Family vol. 1. p. 15
As he entered his seventies, Richard married (2) the widow MARTHA [ ] WOODARD/ WOODWARD on 9 May 1754. 16They had two children, Polly and Josiah.
Josiah and Polly belong to son Richard, not Robert. Wife Martha may be Martha Woodward and need cutting and merging.
Still no place for William Gaston......
Erica Howton can you unlock Joseph Vick, Sr. and add the missing son Richard Vick from above. He is noted in the "About Section" as a child, but no profile.
I am not sure who Matthew Vick is. The Vick Book does not mention him as a son of Joesph, only the six children above, but it does note there could be more by the "vague" wife relationships.
When looking at son Robert Vick, Sr.
The noted Polly and Josiah need removal along with William Gaston as children as they are not noted in his will. Will is posted now and the only children listed are:
I[?]MARTHN, b. ca. 1712; d. after 1783 in Halifax County,
North Carolina. She m. EDWARD BRANTLEY of Isle of
Wight County and they moved to Halifax County about 1760
after he obtained a 680 acre grant. They lived near the Benjamin
Vick family and frequently witnessed Vick deeds. In 1783,
Martha lived near Sarah McMellon, her presumed niece, in
District Three. Children, surnamed BRANTLEY: 1. Edward; 2.
Benjamin; 3. William; 4. James; 5. Robert; 6. Mary; 7. Patty; 8.
Anna. 5
ROBERT, b. ca. 1717; m. [ ].
JOSEPH, b. ca. 1718; m. MARY [?COOPER].
MARY, b. ca. 1719; d. no record.
BENJAMIN, b. ca. 1721; m. MARY [ ].
NATHAN, b. ca. 1723; m. [ ].

Regarding Joseph Vick
From Joseph Vick Family vol. 1 pp 66-67:
There is no will or probate record for Joseph Vick in Duplin County. A
settlement of his estate which was filed on 20 July 1784 implies that he had
died in the summer of 1778. 12
His children were not named in this settlement, so, except for Cooper,
they are highly speculative. The first four were probably born in
Southampton County, Virginia, and the last three probably in Duplin
County, North Carolina:
COOPER4, b. 1748; m. CHARITY JORDAN.
[?]JESSE, b. 1751; m. MARY ROBERTSON.
[?]WILLIAM, b. ca. 1755; d. after 1800. William is hard to
document. Efforts to link him to the William Vick shown in
Appendix I have failed because he was undoubtedly too young
to be the father of Mary, wife of Josiah Harrelson. In 1782,when
Cooper Vick obtained land in Johnston County, it was recorded
as adjoining the land of William Vick, although no grant for
William can be found. Possibly he was the William Vick listed
as living alone, aged above sixteen, in the 1790 census. He does
not appear in the 1800 census, but, on 13 May 1800, he was the
plaintiff in a civil suit against Thomas Ivey in neighboring
Sampson County. He does not appear after this date.13
[?]MARY, b. 1757; d. after 1832, probably in Logan County,
Kentucky. She m. (1) [ ] EQUALS about 1785 in North
Carolina. He may have been William Equals, of New Bern
District, Hyde County in 1790. By 1800 Mary was a widow and
lived in Pitt County, North Carolina in a household that included two males under ten and a female 10-16. She later moved to Tennessee, possibly with her brothers. On 21 December
1812, as Polly Equals, she m. (2) SOLOMON STRATTON.
She does not appear again until 1832, when, as Mary Equals, she
signed an affidavit affirming the Revolutionary War service of
her brother Joseph. Children, born in North Carolina, surnamed
EQUALS: 1. Mary c., b. 1784-1789 (m. William Fuqua on 29
July 1816 in Davidson County, Tennessee; 2. Silas, b. 1796 (m.
his cousin Mary Vick (daughter of Robert #54).14
[?]JOHN, b. ca. 1760; m. REBECCA FOREMAN.
[?]JOSEPH, b. 19 February 1762; m. (1) [ ]; m. (2) DINAH
KENNEDY.
[?]ELISHA, b. ca. 1776; m. MARGARET DUNN.

This is what got me interested when I saw that Mary Vick, wife of Josiah Harrelson just didn't fit date-wise. Or her currently attached father doesn't - William Gaston Vick. Still trying to find out where he fits and it sounds like the Vick Family have been trying to find out where Mary Harrelson fits.
Kiitos paljon, Antti Olavi Hiillosmäki
I see that you and I have no "blood" relationship showing up on Geni but have the same V1a1a MtDNA. We are rare gems. :-)
So, I woke up this morning remembering the reference to the Mary Vick Harrelson in the book and started looking for her to work back Here is what is written:
pp. 374 - 375.

ADDITIONAlL lLlINE§ & ADDENDA
The authors have not been able to satisfactorily make even speculative links
to established Vick lines for the families in this section. They will be carried
forward in the second volume of this history. When further research enables
them to be linked, they will be inserted in their proper position in our
computerized data base; the revised information will be published in the
Vick Family Newsletter and in a possible revised edition of this volume.
Additional Lines
AOt. WILLIAM VICK was born 1700-1715, possibly in North Carolina.
The date and place of his death are not known.
No land or deed records have been found in Virginia or North Carolina
that can be linked to this William Vick. He m. LUCREATIA TYLER
before 1735. They had at least one child:
1. MARY, b. 1735-1745; d. not known. She m. JOSIAH HARRELSON
probably before 1765. He was the son of Joseph Harrelson. In his
will, which was filed for probate on 4 May 1822 in Horry County,
South Carolina, he names his wife, Mary, children Moses, Josiah,
John, Patience, Mary, Abegail, Susannah, Lucreasa, and Jane, along
with grandson, Hugh Harrelson. Children, surnamed HARRELSON:
1. Moses, b. 1765-1770, d. 9 April 1828 (m. Ann [ D; 2. Josiah, b.
1770, d. after 1840 (m. Mary Ann Stevens); 3. Patience; 4. John,
b. ca. 1775, d. 1854; 5. Mary; 6. Abegail; 7. Susannah; 8. Lucreasa;

There is also another William Vick p. 475:
A02. WILLIAM P. VICK was born in 1792 in Southampton County,
Virginia. He died in Northampton County, North Carolina in 1840.
William married LUCY JOYNER (b. 1820) in Southampton County.
The couple lived in Northampton County where he had earlier managed the
Rogers family's farms. He bought land in his own right and was a
successful farmer. An old friend fatally stabbed him during an argument.
His wife and three-year-old son survived him:

This book is extremely informative and I think that for now, we can do several things:
1. Remove the Gaston from the Middle name of William Vick, father of Mary Vick Harrelson.
2. Add the notes above on the first William noted to his profile.
More people need to weigh in on this regarding whether William needs to stay on the established Vick tree. until we find where he fits. I think that they are working on it. If the DNA works, but he is attached to the wrong parents, maybe a Placeholder to Joesph?????
I would say keep him unless you have strong doubts. In which case, he will need more research to keep him from being without a family-- Lucreatia Vick should be fleshed out more if possible.
These unconnected profiles (not connected to the Big Tree) are just sad lol
Since I have nothing else to add at this time, I will say that I am not emotionally attached to an outcome and trust your judgment and your opinion and believe we share a common goal.
Seeing where someone hits on a relationship path is very helpful. This correctly, I believe, points to my paternal line around Chapman/Whitehead/Webber and that is helpful to me.
Yes, the Vick Family Association believes they connect somewhere and seem to keep trying to find more information. Both of the Williams in the addenda are considered "family."
I will check on Lucretia Tyler Vick to see whay I can find.
I have a couple of "placeholders" in my lines as they are verified by wills but unclear as to which daughter (and her spouse) was the correct attachment. Gifts were to grandchildren which made the connection. Sometimes that is the most you can hope for, sadly.
I am getting different parents from William Gaston Vick and Lucretia Tyler for these when I search:
According to "the book" some may match;
Joseph Vick and wife Mary Cooper Vick:
There is no will or probate record for Joseph Vick in Duplin County. A
settlement of his estate which was filed on 20 July 1784 implies that he had
died in the summer of 1778. 12
His children were not named in this settlement, so, except for Cooper,
they are highly speculative. The first four were probably born in
Southampton County, Virginia, and the last three probably in Duplin
County, North Carolina:

Note that Joseph's William is believed to be too young to be the father of Mary Vick Harrelson, but that several of the Joseph Sr's descendants moved to nearby Duplin County, SC is interesting.
Need to sort the above profiles to the correct parents. All do not belong to Joseph and Mary Cooper Vick. But they belong to someone.
Looks like some of the above children go to Joseph Vick son of Robert Vick, Sr. and some may go to Joseph Vick, Jr
There may be another Joseph that some go to. It is much a mess, I think.

I think that this is the man who is "William Gaston Vick"
Found a "Standley or Stanley" Vick for service in the Mexican-American War 1846-1848
"United States Mexican War Index and Service Records, 1846-1848", database with images, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QLXQ-FV8K : 13 March 2018), Standley Or Stanley Vick, 1846-1848.
According to the recrods, PVT Stanley Vick did return, but so many died during and after that war from disease and wounds, it may explain Susan Fisher Vick's "widow" status. Again, more research is needed. I contacted a descendant.
Sons Richard and Robert were merged and unmerged and not corrected afterwards is what I am seeing today. I have been sorting the wives and their children and fixing the Abouts that got intermingled.
At least good to see that is what happened :)
I am "BACK" here today again because of Whitehead.
The relationship trek I shared above now says "could not be found" so I know I should have just cut/paste because who knows what it was lol
https://www.ancestry.com/discoveryui-content/view/1262548:7836?ssrc... shows marriage records but is not an image so I would like to see whatever there might be in an image.
As always, I am late to the party but this appears to be someone in my line as well. I know my Whitehead but there are some missing pieces that connect me to unknown DNA cousins on an ethnic segment so that is always like walking through a foot of mud-- slow. Impossible at times.
