Please Help. I had my Samuel Vogan married to Mickel Rhodes blocked because I did not know who his parents were. I found a documentation proving that my Samuel Vogan [b January 9, 1787-d 17 Aug 18 1860] parents were James and Margaret [Riley] Vogan. There is a big problem due to another Samuel Vogan attached to this James and Margaret Vogan which needs to be detatched and my Samuel Vogan placed in their record as their child. See document in my line. The document reads: James Vogan - Men. Cem, Record. s-William - Margaret Riley [his wife not mother]. m 1775 Margaret Riley June [Jan] 12,1831l lists children 1. John [age 78-9-12] [Cem Record] m Elizabeth Studebaker; 2. James; 3. Isaac; 4. Samuel m Michle Rhoades; 5. Isabella m John Barton, --widow, family, & Negro continue farming b.c. May 13, 1744 or 1745-May 13, 1824 or 1834 - May 15, 1829 [age 79] Vpganville. It also stated that he died in Revolution [wrong]. Please help make the record right. Lola Ann [Cole] Kaufman

I've copied some text from Samuel Vogan, of Kentucky to Samuel Vogan in order to aid disambiguation but I note two incinsistencies:

his death date cannot be 1764 as he was only born in 1788.
regarding parents it states "... parents were: John Sr and Ann Ruth (Griffin) Vogan ... parents were Ensign James Vogan and Margaret Riley[sic]..." which is a logical impossibility.

A further inconsistency with this text:

1. THIS Samuel Vogan, who was born 9 January 1787 and died 17 August 1860 in Flemingsburg, KY. His parents are unknown. He married (a) Mickel Rhodes and had 6 children and (b) Rebecca Elizabeth Baird and had 7 children from this union. He was married both times in Nicholas County, KY. - A Veteran of War of 1812.

2. Samuel Vogan born 1 February 1788 Lancaster Co, PA died 23 August 1861 Vogansville,PA. He married Sarah 'Sally' (Remsnhder) Vogan. His parents were Ensign James and Margaret (Riley) Vogan.

3. Samuel Vogan born 19 Feburary 1788 Lancaster Co, PA died 23 August 1764 Lancaster Co, PA parents were: John Sr and Ann Ruth (Griffin) Vogan. He Married Anna (Covert) Vogan. His parents were Ensign James Vogan and Margaret Riley.

Is that the dates of #2 and #3 are almost identical and I suspect have been mashed together due to bad genealogies over the years. The Feb 19 to Aug 23 dates are from this tombstone: https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/34553223/samuel-vogan which given the physical proximity and matching styles is clearly the husband of Sarah Reemsnyder https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/34553251/sarah-vogan making him #2 but with #3's DOB

Regardless of whether #2 & #3 are mixed up or one man or whatever the physical proximity of #2's gravestone to the gravestones of https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/34215611/james-vogan#source and https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/34553329/margaret-vogan is pretty good circumstantial evidence that they are NOT the parents of #1 despite the assertion they are in the first post at the start of this thread.
