Query: These photos of a Mrs Whittaker do not have the source cited.

These photos of ‘Mrs Whittaker’ are from the Holtermann Collection held at the Mitchell (NSW State) Library, Sydney and on the back of the photos it states that they are probably the wife of William Whittaker, Squatter, Posey Hill. Posey Hill is a sheep property near Tambaroora and Hill End, NSW. Therefore, the photos were most likely taken at Tambaroora near Hill End around 1872. The photos are probably of Mary Ann Whittaker/Deaman née Ley wife of William James Whitaker, Squatter, Posey Hill.

The Holtermann Collection, sponsored by Bernhardt Otto Holtermann who once lived at Hill End then Sydney, were as far as I am aware were taken in the 1870’s in the gold rush towns of NSW, including Hill End, Tambaroora, Gulgong and some gold rush towns of Victoria. Also, in Sydney and Melbourne.

It is difficult to be 100% sure which Mrs Whittaker the photo is of. Mary Ann Whittaker of Posey Hill most like knew Bernhardt Otto Holtermann as he lived at Hill End at one time. I know Mary Ann Whittaker knew Bernhardt Otto Holtermann’s Star of Hope Gold Mine partner Ludwig Hugo ‘Louis’ Beyers, as he was the Justice of Peace witness to Mary Ann Whittaker’s mark in her 2nd husband, William James Whittaker’s of ‘Posey Hill’, Deceased Estate.

The photos are most likely not of Emma Sarah Whittaker née Brewer as
I don’t think she was living in the areas the photos were taken.
