I have a Basic (Free) Geni account which by and large only allows me to see expanded profiles and to create discussions on the Discussions tab. The Geni profile for Cliverius Duke III circa 1760- circa 1818 does not list his parents James Duke & Keziah Burnley and the ‘Revisions’ tab show they were removed the 14 April 2016 without explanation as to why. (See: Cliverius Duke, III )
An 1800 Louisa Co. VA Chancery court case to settle the estate of Clevears Duke 1714-1785 lists his nineteen grandchildren. The fourth line down says “Clevearse Duke dec’d. Clevearse Duke (son of James), Harden Duke, James Duke, Saml. O. Pottus and Amy his wife,”. These were the four children of James Duke and Keziah Burnley. (See: https://freepages.rootsweb.com/~theduffypapers/family/duke/1800_duk... )
Cliverius Duke per his 1818 Louisa Co., VA Revolutionary War pension application stated he was 63 years of age (1818 minus 63 years equals born in 1755) . So the Geni profile is off by 5 years as to when he was born. (See: https://revwarapps.org/s39471.pdf )
The above referenced Revolutionary War pension application has a Transcribers Note by that his brother Harden (Hardin) Duke (son of James Duke & Keziah Burnley) in 1842 mentioned the service of his late brother, Cleavers Duke, in the application of Catharine Jackson, widow of John Jackson. (See: http://revwarapps.org/s8357.pdf ) So Cliverius Duke was deceased prior to 1842, which is proved by an 29 March 1825 Louisa Co., VA estate inventory for Clevears Duke deceased. So he died in 1825, not the circa 1818 referenced in Geni’s profile.
And last, but not least there is the issue of his given name ‘Cliverius’. In more than 80 historical Hanover / Louisa Co., VA court/land/will/etc. documents his grandfather’s name was written ‘Clevears Duke’ 48 times, ‘Clevearse Duke’ 15 times with 11 other variations including one version ‘Cleverius’ 3 times, which is similar to the Geni profile given name ‘Cliverius’. (See this webpage which has the source documents and the snippets from each that show his written name: https://freepages.rootsweb.com/~theduffypapers/family/duke/clevears... )
WikiTree ( https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Duke-1071 ) and FamilySearch ( https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/details/LHNF-329 ) have adopted ‘Clevears’ as his given name, given that it was most often spelled that way in historical documents for Clevears Duke 1755-1825, his grandfather Clevears Duke 1714-1785, and his uncle Clevears Duke Jr. 1750-before 1820.
