Can we narrow the birthdate of Katherine a bit? It is currently showing as 1687, but that makes some children born very late. On the other hand, it's probably before 1700 - based on births of the earliest-born children.

This also may affect the claim that she had a child Jesse born in 1749 (as there is a claim that the Jesse b.1727 is fictitious).

Disconnected Joyce Owen (b abt 1711) as child per https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Barnett-3858, which might tilt Katharine more toward 1700.

From Jerry Scott

"Shawnee Heritage Don Green 2014 has that John Barnett had a 1st wife
Mary Cannon/ Cannan1688-1718 2nd Catherine Farrar 1700-1772 Pittsylvania, PA No sources
So William b/ 1718 could be a son of Mary She could have died at childbirth"

I've disconnected the likely-fictitious profile for Lt Col Jesse Barnett Sr, moving Jesse Barnett up as child of John & Katherine

... and there are probably some other 'children' of John & Katherine which need to be dealt with ...

Farrar Family Reunion were aiming to republish:

Some Farrar's Island Descendants Author: Alvahn Holmes Publication: Alvahn Homes & James S. Farrior, 1979 Note: #215 Repository: Note: DAR Library, Washington, DC Call Number: Media: Book Page: p. 6

It’s in copyright, so needs a library Inter loan or an eBay copy. But this seems like the best current family study. I don’t know how we do on vital records for this location and time, but I can try Ancestry for any specific kids.

We do have the Barnett Will to help sort children:

John Barnett, I

www.geni.com/media/proxy?media_id=6000000186256541069&size=large

Children are good according to the Will, but I can’t speak to dates. They don’t align with Will order, but they may not be listed chronologically.

We have a marriage record:

John Barnett, Sr. (b. 1689, Goochland Co, VA; d. 1756, Goochland Co, VA) m. Katherine Farrar (dtr of Thomas Farrar of Dutch Gap & Katherine Perrin). Rev. Douglas performed the marriage ceremony in 1718. Katherine was born ca 1700 in Henrico Co, VA; d. after (1772?).

To me, that puts Katherine at within a year or two of 1700. A girl of her status would likely have been married between age 17 - 19, “old maid” by age 21.

This John Barnett, of Amherst County may be problematic as belonging to this Barnett Family. He’s supposedly born about 1712. I remember being unsure of his origins when looking at the Strangeman Hutchins family.

I don’t think this is right either (?)

Restored this John Barnett, of Fluvanna County as son of Katherine & John, and detached John Barnett, of Amherst County

This works better with dates.

Sarah Chastain had unknown parents, according to the Chastain genealogist. Detached as daughter of Katherine & John, and added Sarah Barnett as their child instead, as per the Will.

Change the Subject; The John Barnett that died in Fluvanna County as a son of John and Catherine what are the Sources? It seems that John Barnett married Agnes Arlington
the son of John and Catherine married in Goochland, VA Issue; Mary Apr 26, 1757, Daniel 14 July 1759 married the same day as the birth of Mary This needs more research. I think someone assumed that John Barnett that died in Fluvanna was the son of John and Catherine

. Ref The Douglas Register births

John Barnett, of Amherst County Supposedly married Ann Barnett before he married Elizabeth Barnett

I’m happy to detach John Barnett, of Fluvanna County as son of John & Katherine and start over with John Barnett ll m Agnes Arlington. Do you have any links to look at?

Jerry Scott - what about the DAR Record? https://services.dar.org/Public/DAR_Research/search_adb/?action=ful... The birth date and location fit perfectly to be John ll. Is that in error?

Dan Cornett - I think the children of

John Barnett, I

Are all good now based on his Will, except the impossible birth date for Jesse. All I can tell you on that is that he was youngest & Katherine outlived her husband, so unless it’s some unknown oddity such as an adopted child, he’s just picked up a bad birth date from somewhere.

Copying over notes from Private User just received:

Managers of Katherine Barnett,

I am contacting you about this profile: Katherine Barnett

Hi all. I recently found a copy (several pages) of a law suite filled by Richard Barnett against his mother, Katherine, and his younger brother, Thomas, complaining that they had cheated the remaining children out of their inheritance. It was very interesting. Bottom line is that Richard was the oldest, not John Jr. Also Thomas was the only son who lived in a house built on his parents property and must have been Katherine’s favorite. She was not supposed to access and/or sell the property she had inherited until a certain date but immediately she and Thomas had sold it and took off for NC. John Jr was one of the executors but more or less sided with his mother though he was shown as of the complainants. The suite failed because she and Thomas could not be completed to return to the Virginia court.

I’m not sure of the date of John Jr’s birth but probably was 1721 or 1722. He would have been fairly young when he married Agnes Arrington in 1744. She was widowed but already had two children. She probably was only about sixteen when she married Benjamin Johnson as that was the average age for women to marry back then. Agnes was expelled from the Quaker faith because John Jr was not yet a member of the faith. He requested to join when he decided to marry Strangman Hutchin’s daughter. His three children by Agnes were accepted a month after he was accepted.

I had found the Douglas Register records for John Jr, as mentioned above:

The Douglas Register page 99. < Archive.Org >” BARNARD, (Barnet) John, & Agnes Allington [Arrington] 26 Apl. 1757” page 156 < Archive.Org > Page 40 “John Barnet & Agnes Arrington a Son named Daniel born Jul: 14, 1759. Baptized 1759 Sep: 23. p. 55.”

Jerry Scott - the birth date of 1749 for Jesse - how is that possible if he’s the son of Katharine Farrar?

With Katharine's birth year 'converging' to 1700-ish, 1749 is, while unusual (particularly for the times), it's not impossible. It is 10 years after the previous child, and perhaps was indeed a "surprise" child.

At the Library yesterday ai found two more children of Jesse Phebe and Martha

Jesse Barnett deed to James and Joseph Barnett Jan 28, 1811, no details on these deeds need a real Library for that

Based on her mother’s age and the date of her marriage, it couldn’t have been more than a year or two before 1700. The average age for a girls marriage back then was around 16 but some actually were even younger.
My grandmother had 14 children and she was 46 when the last one was born so not impossible.

Katherine was one of eight and was one of the middle children. I can’t seem to find any record of the births or any exact dates for the births but it seems that William, Sarah and Perrin were the oldest since they are the only ones who are mentioned in their grandfather, Richard Perrin’s will and he died in 1694.
John was deeded land in 1723 so had to have been born no later than 1702. Joseph seems to have been the youngest and moved away from Farrar’s Island in 1728 so likely wasn’t born beyond 1707.

Just a note of interest. The John or Thomas Bernard who is listed as married to an Agnes Arrington was listed in the Douglas Register which was an Anglican register. He is not related to the Barnett’s. Their two children, Daniel and Mary were also kot related.

So there were two different Arrington families in Goochland? Wouldn’t the Barnetts have been Anglican?

And what is the birth date of 1749 for Jesse based on?

Here’s a study on Benjamin Johnson of Goochland County, Virginia (2004)

http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~lksstarr/reports/BenJohnsonGchlndCo4...

Obviously, John Barnet married Agnes Arrington Johnson not long after the death of her husband, Benjamin Johnson. According to the Douglas Register, John Barnard and Agnes Arrington had a daughter Mary Howard on April 26, 1757 and a son Daniel on July 14, 1759 (Jones, 156). There may have been other Barnet children, but they remain unidentified. The parents of Agnes Arrington have not been identified at this time, but she may descend from William & Susannah Arrington who moved into Goochland County very early.

I really want to see the husband of Elizabeth Hutchins as the son of Katharine Barnett, but I’m having trouble figuring out how to reconcile the varying studies, particularly the Hutchins Family. What more can be found about their daughter?
