Is Gerson Mattersdorf related to Gerson Sussmann ?

If so, then I wonder if Hirschel Mattersdorf might be related to Akiva Hirschel Süssman in Lakenbach.

I think this is a case of "follow the money." Gerson Sussman (Mattersdorf) (1692-1775) was a court Jew and extremely wealthy.

Gerson Mattersdorf (Isak) (born 1742) was a merchant who paid taxes in the middling range in the 1780s. His grandfather, Hirschel Isak (est. 1675 - 1741) and his great-grandfather Isak Schneider (born est. 1650) were tailors. This was not a wealthy family.

My records don’t show any connection between Hirschel Mattersdorf (Isak) and Akiva Hirschel Süssman (Sussman) in Lackenbach.

I have tried to keep track of kinship between Mattersdorf Jews and Lackenbach Jews because I have a man named Abraham Loeb Lackenbacher (1777-1853) living in Mattersdorf in the late 1700s whose ancestry eludes me.

Thanks Carole. Akiva is my oldest direct ancestor so it would be a fascinating link for me if we could substantiate it. It's impressive how much detailed information you and others have located right into the early days of the Burgenland Jewish communities. Given they only started in 1670 I feel like we aren't too far away from their origins. The ones you are keeping track of - would they have come from Vienna in 1670? My ancestors in Lackenbach had close ties to Northern Hungary and two Big-Y Y DNA so far (for Süss and Kronberger) suggest Slovakian and Polish Jewish roots.
