"I am researching the Ulster Scottish Riddle/Riddell family and associated families that married into the RIddell/Riddle family such as Christy, Clark, Cowan, Douglas, Ferguson, Gordon, Hamilton, Kerr, Carre, Orr Morrison, Taggart and Wilson. A Wilson cousin is collaborating with me. So far, I have Colerain, Londonderry, Northern Ireland with an arrival years between 1639 and 1650. The Irish Rebellion complicates this with many Ulster Scots seeking refuge in larger Protestant settlements until after 1641. Yet the depositions during this time do not show Riddell which is later also found in Comber, Down. Earlier Riddells came with English Normans and DeCoursy in 1177 and some came to Ireland as Scots regiments to help with quelling the Ulster rebellion at Carrikfergus (these Riddells did not go to New England to Londondonderry, NH) Also, the immigration date for Robert Riddle is about 1739 when he witnessed Jesse Christie's will in Londonderry, New Hampshire. Bolton in his book Scots Irish suggests that some of the settlers went to spend the winter in Andover (p. 202) and Hugh Riddle is listed on page 202 as having wintered at Andover (Hugh is brother to Robert). I have found the Ridlon "Riddell" history book to be unreliable and unsourced as I have also sought to verify his 2 generations from "Ballymeath" which does not exist as a townland or parish in Londonderry. Nothing I have found validates or proves that these two generations were in the city of Londonderry (per freeman registers or Port books) or Coleraine, Londonderry Co (was Coleraine County) Northern Ireland"
