Due to some inconsistencies and merge requests, I've started looking into this family. This profile has way too many children, and seem to have acquired some with no birth year and no sources a couple of years ago. I have message the relevant manager about that.

Find a grave has some information about the family, and there seems to be a lot of litterature and sources covering the facts. Wikitree also has an extensive project on the family, with many sources that seems to not match the information here and on Findagrave, but maybe more and better sources by thorough researchers.

I hope that someone with more knowledge of the family can look into this, as I am reluctant to remove children and change information that I am not 100% certain of even if it seems wrong.

sincerely,
Karianne Fog Heen

Joseph Adair Sr. was married twice - first in about 1732 to Sarah Lafferty who was the mother of most of his children - and secondly to Susanna Long in 1771 after Sarah had died in 1770. Please see Adair History and Genealogy by James Barnett Adair for more details.

Marriage Notes for Sarah Lafferty and Joseph Adair, Sr:

The marriage of Joseph Adair and Sarah Lafferty seems to be recorded in the records of Holy Trinity (Old Swedes) Church in Wilmington, DE, which were published in 1890 by the Historical Society of Delaware. The exact entry is in September 1746 under "Joseph Eldare to Sara Luffirty" on page 398.

While the church was Swedish, it was common for the church to minister to recent Scotch Irish immigrant who had no other church to turn to in Wilmington.

Note that Joseph's first son, James, was born in December 1747, according to his tombstone in Indiana.

I have noted other marriage in these records that seems to be connected with Laurens County and the Adairs-and I only have a few pages from the book, so more searching is in order.

Hugh "Romage" to Jane "Adare", April 1746, and a Joseph Holland to a Jane Young.

A reprint of the book can be ordered from the church at www.oldswedes.org.

So - there’s been children wrongly added since I last visited the profile. I’ll see if I can relocate them to the proper generation. If not, I’ll disconnect.

James Adair, of Indiana (Who married Rebecca Adair) is not recognized by the DAR as son of Joseph & Sarah. Disconnected.

Is the list correct today?:
Son of Thomas Adair and Margaret Maria Adair (Henart)
Husband of Sarah Adair (Lafferty) and Susanna Adair Long (Murdough)
Father of Joseph Adair, Jr.; Benjamin Adair; Jean Ramage (Adair); Sarah Adair; Mary Owens (Adair); James Adair, of Duncan’s Creek; Elizabeth Adair; John Adair; Joseph Adair, Jr.; John Wesley Adair; Samuel Jefferson Adair; George Washington Adair; Margaret Ann Adair; Fairby Adair; Sophia Adair; Eliza Jane Adair; Thomas Jefferson Adair, Jr.; Laney Ann Adair; James John Addair, Sr.; John Adair (died as a child) and Sarah Hanna (Adair)

No. He had 7 children with his 1st wife Sarah Adair & 2 with his 2nd wife. Sarah is showing 14 children.

Resolved.
