Lizbeth Jane Reed are you sure you have the correct profile?
The man you linked to is Clarence "Dick" Austin Goodness Clarence Austin Goodniss .
He did indeed change the spelling of his name sometime between registering the birth of his daughter in 1915 and enlisting in 1917.
I adjusted the spelling on the profile but there's no evidence at all for this man using Lewelyn.
I spotted the confusion, you linked to your great grandfather who's son is indeed Clarence Lewelyn Goodniss.
I updated his profile also. Clarence Llewellyn Goodniss
Hi Alex thanks so much for responding so quickly. I think I didn't make myself clear. Clarence "Dick" Austin Goodniss was my grandfather. Clarence Lewelyn Goodniss was my father. Born 1 Oct. 1914 and died 5 Oct. 1963. I don't know much about when the e was changed to an i. I know I got checks misprinted when I was younger so apparently it's a common mistake. I also remember my grandfather mentioning some relatives used the e spelling. Any thank you so much for making the corrections.
No need to apologise :)
Clarence A's parents were French Canadians and it looks like they changed names when they migrated to MA from Labonte or La Bonte to Goodness, "la bonte" literally translates to "the goodness".
I set up some merges on the profiles you created yesterday, if you approve them it will give you better access to correct and update your family members and will also connect you to the World Family Tree.
