Does anyone have proof that Ann Tanner (or Rhoda Ann Faure) is his wife and the mother of his children? It is known that his wife's name was Ann (per his will, for one thing), The Bonderant Family Association (https://www.bondurant-family.org/) has Jean Pierre's wife as Ann Tanner. But what is the proof?
When did Dr. Jean Pierre Bondurant marry his wife Ann Bondurant I would guess by 1705, age 20 or so?
Edward Tanner wrote his Will in 1719 and named underage daughters. Ann’s name is obscured on the document (or at least, the transcription available):
The will of Edward2 Tanner, of Henrico County, dated August 13, 1719, was probated November 2, 1719, son Edward Tanner, plantation he now lives on and one feather bed, one cow, one steer; son John Tanner, plantation he lives on and one feather bed and furniture; wife [name not given], plantation I now live on during her life and after her death to my son Joseph Tanner; son Joseph Tanner, plantation I now live on after my wife's decease, and one gun called Bockam, and one feather bed and furniture; grandson Edward Tanner all my land between Flinton's Slash and head line it being on south side of the slatch; daughter Ann --, one feather bed and furniture and sole[leather?] trunk, one cow and heifer known by the name of her cows and all that she hath in her trunk; daughter Martha Tanner, one feather bed and furniture, one new black leather trunk to her at age 21 years or marriage; daughter Elizabeth Tanner, one feather bed and furniture, black leather trunk, at age of 21 or marriage; wife [name not given], my Indian slave during wife's life, then to my son Edward; wife, executrix. Witnesses: Thomas Knibb, William Cheatham, William Liggon.*
And, from Jean’s profile:
It is not known if he was married more than once and, if so, which children belong to each wife. A wife Ann, the mother of his son Peter, is mentioned in his will. Many researchers had thought that his wife was Ann Faure but this appears incorrect. She may have been Ann Tanner. The will of Mrs. Mary Tanner, Albermarle Co., Virginia, in the 1760s, left $1 to her daughter Ann Bondurant. Whether this is the widow of Jean Pierre has not been proven. Also, the marriage date cannot be confirmed. The date shown is given by some researchers but it has never been proven.

Has anyone noticed that if she were the first wife and mother of John Peter, and was born in 1695 she’d have been 13? I know brides were young back then but Jean Pierre was 30. Old enough to be her father. Worse still if she were born in 1699 she’d be even younger. I expect this sort of idiocy at ancestry but not here. I’m having the devil of a time sorting out the children in this marriage and the Rhoda Faure as well.

It is not certain that Ann's maiden name was TANNER. More research needed. It is definite that her first name as Ann, as illustrated in her husband's 1734 will.
Note: A great deal of research has been done trying to find out just who Ann Tanner was. She is well positioned to be Ann the wife of Jean Pierre Bondurant. Many databases contain an Ann Chastain or Ann's by other last names, but there is no proof that JP was a married man in Europe or during his sojourn in England, nor did he have a companion or wife on the Hugenot carrying ship on which JP came to the colonies. Nor was there a likely wife on any of the other Hugenot ships that came to America at that time. The Ann Chastain wife was published long ago in a book which has many truths, but many mistruths, particularly in the pre America existance of these families. The best information source for Bondurant related questions is the Bondurant Family Association, which, in fact, has spent money and considerable time researching these matters, and the early ancestors of Jean Pierre Bondurant, the immigrant. His wife is known to be Ann, and it is likely that she may have been Ann Tanner, who certainly was involved with the family, but proof is evasive, and may never be obtained. It was definitely not Ann Chastain, however.
