A family member claimed our family tree and is managing it. I can therefor not edit any information, and I have created the tree! How can I get management back again?

You help from geni customer support. Email misconduct@geni.com, be sure in the email to give them some details and links to your tree profile.

Unless the relative is blocking you, there should be no problem.
A person can only claim their own profile, not a Tree.

Whether or not you are a manager, you should be able to edit
Any profile back to 3rd great grandparent, out to 4th cousin, and current souse of each
Any profile where at least one manager is someone in the group mentioned above
For both - As long as Geni shows that relationship and the Profile does not have an Activity Tab ie is not also a Geni User - and there is no Blocking
If none of the exceptions apply and you cannot edit the profile - then there.s a bug which you should report.

Any Public Profile on the World Tree you can also edit.

You can also add yourself as a Manager of that same group of relatives I mention above, with same exceptions I mention

We need an example her, - I would simply guess that she is seeing unconnected duplicates she find by search instead of climbing her tree, which no other then the manager can access, - she have 673 profiles with a duplicate marker in her tree where the few I checked was standalone, unconnected profiles.

Private User it looks like she is a Basic User. Basic Users would just get an Ad for Pro if they tried to click on such a Profile from a search on Geni. And they would not be able to look at the Suggested Matches either.
However, possible to search and find if Public using google or etc.

Helene van Aardt - when you go to those profiles you say someone else is managing and yoh can therefor not edit any information in --
- does it give your correct relationship to it as you know it to be -- or does it say No Path Found??

I must say, I am not clued up on using Geni. I have started our family tree, and now only want to edit my father's profile, as he passed away. But if I go to his profile, I cannot edit it. I can edit all our other profiles, but I cannot edit his. I do not know why

I am only a basic user, payment for Pro is a bit ruff in South Africa... I see you say 673 profiles, how on earth is that possible? I only know the basics here, and dont know how to merge, and I dont think I can if I am only a Basic User?

Helene van Aardt your father was a Geni member. You have to report him deceased to Geni customer service. (You do it from the action menu in his profile) When Geni CS has deactivated his account the profil will be open for you to edit.

Helene van Aardt - the reason you cannot edit your father has nothing to do with "A family member claimed our family tree and is managing it." Had you started by mentioning it was your father's profile you could mot edit, you would have gotten better guidance right away.
Sorry three of us guessed wrong and spent time instead addressing other issues,

Your father at one point joined Geni. As a Geni user, he is the only one who can edit his profile, just as you are the only one who can edit your profile, I am the only one who can efit my profile, etc. Once his account is closed, you will be able to edit it.
