How do i merge a tree i have on myheritage with a tree i have on geni?

thanks!

The two data bases can’t be merged. You can build up lines until they can connect to the Geni Tree, at which point you don’t have to enter the ancestors, or perhaps a GEDCOM import will work. But though the two companies are connected, they are separate entities.

thanks so much, Anne. Im not sure what gedcom is but i have seen it and i will try it.

DO NOT DO GEDCOM IMPORT! Instead, use SmartCopy - https://www.geni.com/projects/SmartCopy/18783

SmartCopy allows way more control - update existing profiles, only create new profiles for ones that do not exist.

Importing creates a gazillion duplicates all of which need to be merged - after which for each field that had a value , you have to choose which is the correct value in the Conflict Resolution Screen if they differed.

thanks you SO much Lois. Will try this.

has
"If a merge involves a profile in a standalone tree, the merge will be pending until it is approved by a manager or collaborator in the other tree."

However, Geni's rules have changed, and Curators can complete requested merges to a Public Profile in a Standalone Tree.
So that statement is a false promise, and may explain some of the upset when standalone trees are merged in.

I always check try to check last login before merging in an unconnected tree. If the user is still active he/she is probably not ready yet. If he/she in the isolated or a close relative in the world tree have approved a merge I can perform the merge, but I never active look for unconnected trees.

Such great information. Thanks to all!
