More research is needed on who the father of Wilson Floyd is. Most likely candidate is that he is a son of Wright Floyd who had a son named James Ervin Floyd and Wilson named his son for his brother who served in the Civil War. More research is needed. DNA testing of descendants would be hellpful on Family Tree DNA and the Floyd project. SF

If "tick counting" matters and most think it does, Wright Floyd and his wife Demaris seem to be the likely parents. Notes below:

Wright Floyd (son of Frederick) was born in 1801/1802 in Horry Dist, SC. He died after 1870 in Horry Co, SC.

From 1840 census (citation below):

1 Male 30 - 40 ("Wright" Floyd)

1 Male 15-20 (Unknown son of Wright Floyd - Correct age to be son John R. Floyd)

1 Male 10-14 (Unknown son of Wright Floyd - Correct age to be son Wilson Floyd)

1 Male 5-10 (James Floyd)

1 Female 30-40 (wife of Wright Floyd - probably Demaris Adams)

1 Female under 5. (Sarah Floyd)

"United States Census, 1840," database with images, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XHYL-4F4 : 19 August 2017), Right Floyd, Horry, South Carolina, United States; citing p. 325, NARA microfilm publication M704, (Washington D.C.: National Archives and Records Administration, n.d.), roll 512; FHL microfilm 22,509.

http://www.martygrant.com/genealogy/floyd/floyd-frederick-horry.htm...;

Wright married Demaris Adams, daughter of Abner Adams and Jane, before 1828 in Horry Dist, SC. Demaris was born in 1811/1812 in Horry Dist, SC. She died after 1870 in Horry Co, SC.

They had the following children.

M i. James Ervin Floyd was born in 1830/1831 in Horry Dist, SC.

James married Temperance Elliott in 1850/1852 in Horry Dist, SC. Temperance was born in 1834/1835 in Horry Dist, SC.

F ii. Sarah J Floyd was born in 1835/1836 in Horry Dist, SC.

F iii. Mary A Floyd was born in 1841/1842 in Horry Dist, SC.

This researcher believes that Wright Floyd had more children that the three noted above by Marty Grant, given the 1840 census data. Consider the possibility that the oldest male child listed in the census of "Right" Floyd in 1840 was between 15-20 years old, it was most likely son John R. Floyd who lived in the area, was buried at Riverside and named a son William Wright Floyd. Coupled with the fact that descendants to this day claim kinship in the area through descent of Frederick Hardee Floyd, John R. is at least one of the unnamed children. The question is - did Wright Floyd have more than one wife, perhaps as Demaris was almost 10 years younger and may have been too young to have had the first child in the 1840 census. Of course, none of the ages may be correct as census numbers are often in doubt. '

I also believe that another son is Wilson Floyd who named a son James Ervin Floyd, probably for his brother and son John for his brother John R. Dates fit. In addition, a Delialh Goodson who may be a sister with a daughter named Demaris is in the home of Wilson in the 1860 census. SF

Family search also has a daughter listed for Wright Floyd named Demaris Floyd who married Joseph George Washington Dewitt. Her profile is noted on

https://ancestors.familysearch.org/en/9MST-TLY/demaris-floyd-1824-1896

Born in 1824, she should have shown up in the 1830 census also, BUT with so much family around, both Demaris and Delilah could be off with other relatives when the census taker came around.

I did find Delilah on Find a Grave and on Family Search:

https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/details/LHJG-1XN

https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/39376603/delila-e-goodson-brantley

Delila married a second time after Jackson Grainger Goodon (though I find little info on him) and moved to Florida. A number of the family moved down there then.

I am revisiting this as I just had a cousin contact me about a descendant of Wilson's who was interested in more information.

I think we can lay this to rest. Anyone wanting to disconnect Wilson from Wright Floyd needs to read the discussion and consider the facts as laid out.
