The title says it all. What do you do? I have several of these instances where the managers don't respond to the merge, Some merges I cannot initiate due to one profile being private but have sent messages to the other manager with no response.

Curators can help for profiles born before 1872:

ATTENTION Curators, please assist

The profiles in question are not that old.

My issue is profile managers who make a merge into an existing tree thus creating duplicate profiles and never address the mess they made.

Chuck Schoenfeld - curators may still be able to assist with a merge undo. Post specific profiles that need help there.

I'd rather complete the merges on the duplicates then undo the merges that created them.

That is not possible without assent from both managers on private profiles before 1872.

You can also look for "claimed profiles" near the private profile, contact, and ask to OK the merge. Close relatives can do it even when curators can't.

Also, open the private profile manager's profile, click on "Actions" and see whether "Inactive manager" (formerly called Abandoned tree) appears. If this menu item is available, then the manager hasn't logged in to Geni in 9 months. If you click this item, then Geni will (among other things) try to find an active claimed profile close to the manager (but not necessarily close to your problematic private profile), and, if found, add that user as another manager of the private profile. That user will then have the ability to approve your merge.

I've contacted two profile managers and it appears that they also can't access both profiles to complete the merges..

Here are a few profiles that have duplicates in the tree that we can't merge.

I admit, these two solutions don't always work. I too have some merges accepted by me that haven't been completed for years because some very remotely related people created some private duplicate profiles and then left Quora. I think it ould be better if (at least some) curators just had the ability to merge private profiles.

Do you mind posting with which profiles you want to merge these 3 examples? Maybe someone can figure out what the difficulty is. Thanks

For example, something like https://www.geni.com/merge/compare/6000000007163842474 looks challenging - someone added a tree with only 2 private profiles, both duplicates, 8 years ago, and not even the curators can merge it into the world family tree now.

I just checked. I have 46 unanswered merge requests going back to 2012.

You should approve the ones where the profiles are really for the same person.

For ones where Geni fails to Create a Suggested Match between two profiles - I think a Curator can help there, setting it up as a requested match with neither side checked= approved yet.

Also, if the other manager is active and trying to cooperate - I have asked to be added as a Manager of their version, promising to merge and then we would both be manager of the merged profile -- and then used https://help.geni.com/hc/en-us/articles/4408886222999-How-do-I-use-... to merge them once I was a manager of both.

OK, so now there are 64 unanswered merges that I requested. I'm convinced these requests are being ignored by absentee profile managers or managers who don't know how to perform a merge.

Chuck Schoenfeld - totally possible.
I generally try not to click Request if the Managers are all Inactive. Also be aware - Geni only sends one merge request per day to a given user, so sending him multiple merge requests on the same day may be counter-productive.

Have you gone to the version of the profile you do not managed and clicked "Actions" to see if it says "Inactive Manager"?
If yes, you can click on Inactive Manager, and a Geni algorithm may add another manager.

Have you gone to the version of the profile you do not managed and clicked "Contact Managers" and sent them a message including the link to the requested merge and asking them if they agreed the two were the same, and if so would they please click "Yes Merge"?
If you send that message for all 64, with any luck it ought to get at least one or two completed. And if you are lucky, maybe many.

It's now up to 80 unanswered requested merges. I now find myself checking the activity status of every profile manger.

It's now down to 77 since I deleted a few duplicate profiles.
