Also, per DAR, John S Dillard is not the child of this patriot but his brother SAMUEL & GRANDSON OF GEORGE DILLARD A036008 which looks like George Dillard, Sr. should be the father of Capt. James Dillard as seen on Capt. James Dillard
https://services.dar.org/public/dar_research/search_adb/default.cfm...
Daughter Eliza D. Dillard needs correct parents
https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Dillard-255 says Daughter of James Dillard and Mary E. (Puckett) Dillard
For John S Dillard, Capt. James Dillard does not show a brother Samuel but Capt. James Dillard does-- Samuel Dillard
After working on them again today, I will go ahead and merge James with James and disconnect from John Dillard and Sophia Dillard based on the DAR comments
Please double check the work.
Thank you
His name wasn’t wrong. I’ve updated the curator note & locked relationships:
James Dillard, son of John & Sophia Dillard, Married 1) Mary Ramage; 7 children. 2) Mary Puckett, widow Murrell; 7 children. He reached the rank of Major but is most often referred to as Captain to reduce confusion with another Major Dillard.

No idea unless there was a Display Name in the dupe?
Odd. The MP’d one said Capt. and the dupe said Major.
No idea how he became James Dillard, Major lol
I changed the parents based on the DAR comments
http://www.sarrettsofgeorgia.com/dillardhistory3.html
lists James as one of several children of John Dillard and Sophia ?:
1. Elizabeth b. about 1741, m. Robert Strother, d. ?.
2. William b. about 1743, m. Mary Norman, d. Sep 8, 1781.
3. James b. 1755, m. 1st Mary Ramage, m. 2nd Mary Puckett, d. Dec 4, 1836, buried next to Mary Puckett in SC. Rose to the rank of major during the American Revolution.
?. George b.?, m. ?, d. ?.“
https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Dillard-267 and DAR gives father as George, not John but I have not worked on them any further
Right now the curator header note is incongruent with the profile
I should have locked it.
Notes in profile:
James Dillard, son of John and Sophia Dillard, born in Culpeper County, South Carolina. He reached the rank of Major but is most often referred to as Captain to reduce confusion with another Major Dillard.
DAR doesn’t list parents of patriots.
https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Dillard-267 describes a man with different dates (1743-bef 1808) vs this profile as illustrated by tombstone (1755-1836)
I will revert & lock.
Cynthia Curtis, A183502, US7875087 - please don’t change from my curator note in the future.
You are welcome to challenge my conclusions, but don’t change from the note until I’ve had a chance to review.
Erica Howton thank you for fixing it and clarifying.
I did not challenge anything.
I saw the duplicate and the DAR note about the grandfather of John S Dillard being GEORGE and made a discuss every step of the way
and when the parents stayed George and wife after you responded, I replied back to you that they were not the same parents as the curator note and gave you two links to see where both have been suggested.
You are right, you changed parents before I updated the curator note:
Capt. James Dillard was disconnected from his parents John Dillard and Sophia (Watkins) Dillard and siblings Elizabeth (Dillard) Strother, Major Dillard, Ann Dillard and John Dillard by Cynthia (Hicks) Curtis, A183502, US7875087.

So my point should have been:
Please don’t change sourced MP parents (they were described in the profile overview) without discussing it before and giving a chance for my review.
Mary Dillard is “notable”, and I worked on her 10 years ago. I had assumed my notes for the family would be followed.
Erica Howton the merge allowed me to “move” John. I perhaps should have left the merge undone or merged and not chosen parents.
I do not mean to overstep.
Just wanted them correct and there is the DAR note so that helps for John but not so much for the whole family group since there is so much confusion and not enough information/ no touchstone.
I see in the Dillard genealogy sites that the line has been here since the 1600’s but the genealogy is not complete and one reason is the multiple repeat of names but a huge issue is that there was noone to carve the gravestones before the 1830’s in this one community so that contributed.
Hopefully someone is able to work on them from DNA.
You should that I will defer to you and any curators especially for the profiles they curate and I mostly tree build and make corrections as I go or try to bring attention where I find a problem/have concern.
Again, thank you.
