I'm a descendant of Joshua Terrell whose parents are Martha Ann Cox and William Terrell. This profile for him seems to have the same mother as this Martha Annie (Cox) Terrell:

Joshua Terrell

There are no notes in his profile and my request at some point in the past to be added as a manager has never had a response.

These are sources that show his parents as Martha Cox and William Terrell:

Geneanet Community Trees Index Source info

Name Joshua Terrell*
Birth 1740 Cheraw, Chesterfield, South Carolina, USA
Death 21 November 1784 Welch Neck, Marlboro, South Carolina, USA
Marriage 1763 Welch Neck, Marlboro, South Carolina, USA
Spouse Mary Ann Young
Father William Richmond Terral
Mother Martha Ann Cox
Children Edward Young Terrall

At first glance my thought was to merge the profiles for his parents William and Martha, but the problem is that the two profiles for Martha have different parents listed for her. Both have William Terrell as her father but this one show her parents as William Cox and Catherine Kinkey, which is what I have in my tree, but other Ancestry trees show Martha's parents as William Terrell and Racheal Meadows, and the other Geni profile for her shows her mother as Anna Lovett.

Martha Terrell

The will of William Cox who was married to Catherine Kinkey names Martha in his will as "Martha Terrell wife to William Terrell"

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Cox-1962

Googling, I could find very little info on any of these folks and couldn't find anything on any parents for Martha other than William Cox and Catherine Kinkey. Ancestry shows:

Geneanet Community Trees Index Source info

Name Martha 'Mattie' Cox
Birth 1721 Hockessin, New Castle, British Colonial America, Delaware, USA
Death April 1779 New Castle, Delaware, USA
Father William C Cox
Mother Catherine Kinkey

If there is info on the Anna Lovett connection, it isn't posted on her Geni profile.

Martha Terrell

Like so many, I've had Martha Ann's parents as William Cox and Catherine Kinkey, but the above link has them as William Cox and Anna Lovett.

All that said, in the course of searching for all this, I came across the info on this site that is adamant that the Martha Cox who married William Terrell was not the same as the daughter of William Cox and Catherine Kinkey. So two issues: 1) merging the parents of Joshua Terrell into this branch and 2) determining if, indeed, Joshua's mother was Anna Lovett or Rachel Meadows (neither of which I've seen any source for) since the above link refutes Catherine Kinkey as his mother.

I had actually posted in the past under the Discussion tab of this Martha regarding her parentage and never had any response at all:

Martha Annie Terrell

I would really appreciate any assistance in sorting these connections out correctly with what documentation can be added. Thanks.

There are others on Wiki posting in the comments section that it's an error that Catherine Kinkey is part of this Terrell family:

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Cox-1962

and the consensus is that the wife of William Terrell and William Ferrell have been confused and mixed together for some time and is being perpetuated.

And it gets more complicated.

Some Ancestry trees have this for Martha:

Father
Carter 'Cox' Hickok (1709–1751)
Mother
Anna Lovett (1699–1744)
Spouse
William D Terrell (1725–1797)

And one who uses the name Martha Annie Cox as shown on this profile has this:

Father
Richard Cox Sr. (1678–1734)
Mother
Mary Trent (1682–1735)
Spouse
William Terrell (1710–1784)

So, lots of William Terrells with different dates and a variety of poptions for the parents for Martha (Cox) Terrell but little to no documentation to indicate who has it correct.

I found five sites that show the daughter Martha of Richard Cox and Mary Trent married a Ferguson, not a Terrell. So I believe they can be ruled out as parents for our Martha (Cox) Terrell.

Geni is showing Anna Lovett as the wife of William Cox. Ancestry is showing her married to Carter 'Cox' HIckok. The only mention of her I've found at all is at this link:

https://homepages.rootsweb.com/~lovitt/queries1.html

"Lancaster & Bathsheba LOVETT; Lancaster & Mary CARRAWAY LOVETT; William LOVETT & Ann KEELING; Ann LOVETT; Cason MOORE; William COX; John GILES; Sarah COX; James SHIPP. Email: Will share. Thanks
I descend from Lancaster & Bathsheba LOVETT, thru Lancaster LOVETT & Mary CARRAWAY, thru William LOVETT and Ann KEELING, thru their daughter Ann Lovett (I have no dates or siblings for her) she married 3 times, I believe: 1) Cason MOORE, 2) my William COX, Sr. 3)John GILES. My Rev. ancestor is the son of Ann LOVETT & William COX: Benjamin COX bca 1755 married before 1780, died Apr 1796 Princess Anne Co. Va. Wife: Pemmy (Pembroake) ________. Various children of Anne LOVETT MOORE, COX, GILES have been given to me, but no proof, no source: Mary (md BOUSH); William; John or Jonathan; Anne; Eliza; Amy; John MOORE and Cason MOORE, Jr. Will welcome any confirmed data or corrections. All records are from Princess Anne Co. VA."

but there's just not enough info on her or the William Cox who is mentioned as one of her three husbands to know if it's the same one here on Geni. In any case, her children aren't listed. So with so little info on that marriage, it neither confirms nor refutes the connections in question.

No one ever responded to my previous posts but I see that changes have been made earlier this year.

I think there is still some info that is incorrect. The only info I can find on Martha's birth is in the notes I have added to her profile since no sources or any info at all was in her About section.

However, if Martha was born abt. 1720, that date works for her connected mother being born at. 1700 but I doubt her father was William would have been born in 1709, as that would make him 9 years younger than his wife and only about 11 years old when Martha was supposedly born.

As with Martha, there are no notes or sources in either of her parents' profiles. I'm working on trying to add what I can. I've long hoped to get these connections better documented, so that seems to still be a work in progress.
