Is he the same as Thomas Davis, of Haverhill

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Davis-1090 (who is tough on connecting) claims he is. The Great Migration has no parents for him.

Research notes:

Parents: So I am feeling better about the identification of the father of Thomas being John Davis, and him being a brother of James Davis. The will of John Davis of Acton Turville, Gloucestershire names sons James, Samuel and Thomas. It also names grandchildren by son James as John, James and Sarah. These names allow us to say with reasonable certainty that James Davis of Acton Turville and Haverhill, Massachusetts is the son of John Davis who died in Acton Turville in 1626. Given the apparent close association of Thomas Davis of Haverhill and James Davis of Haverhill as outlined by Anderson in his Great Migration biography, it is not unreasonable to say that Thomas Davis of Haverhill is the younger son mentioned in the will of John Davis of Acton Turville.

Comments from their page:

James Davis is a proven son of John and Agnes Davis of Acton Turville. James and Thomas Davis appeared in New England together and then moved to Haverhill together. Multiple court cases show a close association between James and Thomas Davis. John Davis of Acton Turville has a known son Thomas who was of age when he wrote his will in 1626. Thomas had a brother who was born in 1601, and he would be predicted to have been born next about 1603 - Thomas Davis of Haverhill was born in 1603. He was married in Chipping Sodbury, less than 10 miles from Acton Turville. He was said to have been from Marlborough, a major economic center close to Acton Turville (Acton Turville would be on the road between Chipping Sodbury and Marlborough). Everything fits perfect.

I am a direct descendant of John Davis of Acton Turville. I have taken the Big Y-DNA test and have a Y-DNA match to another tester that triangulates back John Davis of Acton Turville. My direct line is through his son James Davis and my Y-DNA match is through his other son Samuel. We both Have documentation that proves out. We are a 5 genetic distance match. I also found several Y-DNA testers that claim to be descendants of the Thomas Davis that you are speaking of. The problem that I am Having is their they are a 12 genetic distance match to us and should be a lot closer match than that. Looking forward to your thoughts.

I left out the step in 5 step genetic distance.

I am not saying that James and Samuel did not have a brother named Thomas because Johns will named him as one of his sons. But what I am saying is at this time we do not have anyone with Y-DNA to prove it out.

Here is the link to the Davis web site that claims to be direct descendants of Thomas Davis.

Yes, I enjoy that site.

The Davis family in Acton Turville was large, and, I’m concerned for primary evidence showing which man in England was which man in New England. You know, something like a letter or Will saying,” to my sisters son X now residing in Massachusetts.” :). (I can dream).

What’s your Y DNA Test comparison? That is, to which person in Acton Turville?

The person I share the Y-DNA match with goes through John Davis's son Samuel and I through his son James. He does not live in acton Turville he lives here in the united states. We collaborate often. He has traveled to England to do research.

That looks like the light green group, R-M269

“John Davis of Newbury, Mass”

Is that correct?

Yes. I would like to send you a Y-DNA tree that show's all the descendant's but I do not know how to load it on GENI.

Yes. That is the Thomas Davis group that I compared my Y-DNA using the SAPP DNA program. I also compared the STR.s manually. My group is just above that N.H. and Haverhill Mass and is also a shade green.

Adding more information to study:

From https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Davis-941#Marriage_and_Children

  • Parish registers of Acton Turville: The parish registers of Acton Turville start in 1665, greatly hindering the reconstruction of this family. A few scattered records of the Davis family in Acton Turville can be found in the Bishop's Transcripts. Among these can be found the baptism James Davis' daughter Sarah Davis. It is likely the his remaining children were also born Acton Turville, but the records no longer exist.
  • Identification of father: This James Davis has been identified as the son of John Davis of Acton Turville based on a series of wills and baptisms. The first two children of James Davis were baptized at Thornbury where his marriage is recorded and where his wife's family had long resided, while the baptism for his third child was at Acton Turville. These children were James, John and Sarah. The will of his father John Davis dated April 1626 names his son James, as well as his grandchildren by James - James, John and Sarah. James Davis was named in the will of uncle Thomas Davis of Acton Turville. This will also proves James had another brother named Ephraim; James named a son Ephraim.

I’m going to create a Geni Project to examine origins with a particular focus on the DNA evidence.
