There's noting in your post to explain your belief.

You are right, sorry. I meant to send this better explanation: Why I don't believe Henry Thompson of Laurens SC (ca 1784-1860) is the son of Peter Thompson: Henry Thompson, the son of Peter Thompson and Mary Potts, was born November 04, 1779 in Lenoir, Caldwell, N.C. He went to Tennessee (1804 tax list - Wilson County with brothers). Then to Howard Co Missouri. Children of Henry Thompson and Milly include daughters Mary, Rebecca Ann and Martha. He died 1858 and is buried in Missouri.
Check out Henry Thompson of SC at https://www.ancestry.com/family-tree/person/tree/10219021/person/-6...
Further evidence is that I have numerous DNA matches with the Robert Thompson of SC line. Few connect with Peter Thompson, and those that do I believe just have the lineage wrong in ancestry. Nothing connects beyond Peter. Hope this is a better presentation. Henry Thompson in Missouri isn't the best documented person, I am sure I could do better if he were actually my descendant, but not worth my time. Thanks

Hi Robert, I’m your third cousin once removed through my great grandmother Della O. Stephens (Hamby). Since seeing your message I have been trying to figure this out. Obviously you have researched the Thompson line more than I, and I have been reading your contributions online in the Ancestry hints. Looking forward to getting more Thompson info.

Thanks for expanding but i'm still not understanding.

You say Henry was born in Lenoir, Caldwell County, North Carolina

Peter James Thompson(his alleged father) was born either Scotland or Pennsylvania and ends up in Caldwell County, North Carolina.

Henry then moves to TN and later MO and dies in MO.

What from any of that indicates that Henry is not Peter's son? Is it just that you have good DNA matching to the SC family but not to the MO Thompsons? Could that just be the vagaries of DNA or a non-parental event?

That Henry IS Peter's son. The Henry Thompson from Laurens Co. SC is a different Henry but is often confused with the NC Henry that went off to Mo. My Henry Thompson ancestor descends for a character, Robert "Thickety Bob" Thompson, a native of Virginia who migrated to Union Co SC. His son was a Henry, the one from which I descend. I have been trying to get my cousins, related by DNA, to stop placing Peter in their lines as father of my Henry from SC. Peter's son went out West...not to Laurens SC. Hope that's clearer.

Let me try to be clearer. There are two Henry Thompsons, similar dates. My ancestor was a Henry Thompson who was born in South Carolina and died there. The other Henry was born inn North Carolina and died in Missouri. Many persons have listed my Henry as being born in North Carolina to a Peter Thompson. This I am certain is incorrect. My DNA matches support the belief that my Henry (SC) is tied to a line from Va that came to Union CO SC. My Henry has property transactions with his father Robert "Thickety Bob" Thompson from Union Co SC.. His wife was a Merriman and I have DNA matches with that line too. The other Henry from NC was the actual son of Peter Thompson of Lenoir Co NC. He followed members of Peter's family (his brothers) out West. None went to SC. There are many incorrect lines on Ancestry where this error has been repeated. Thanks for looking at this..

I've tried to unpick the damage done by merging but the children are still a mess. I'll have another look tomorrow after work.

If you get a chance can you post a simple list of the names of the children of Henry&Mary and a list of names of children of Henry&Milly.

Thanks for your efforts.
