,So my convict ancestor is Henry Wells ( I see a relative is on this project. Although my ancestor is Henry Wells, it is still to be proven he came to VDL, as it is such a common name. My research has him arriving in Tasmania in 1827 aboard 'The Asia' 2. I have found his records etc. but we can't definitely link him as leaving Tasmania. We do know he turns up in Adelaide in 1849 and Sarah Ann Blackmore. A free woman who arrived in Adelaide just months before aboard the 'Mary Ann'. So where do i go from here? Do I link this person to te project? Maree

have you looked at records in Tasmanian Library. I found details there in same year when ancestor left to Port Philliip. Bay
There are a few ( unfortunately ) Henry Wells there

Laine Conder I have looked at these and 'think' I have found where he came to Port Phillip Bay in 1846 aboard the Lillias. Do you go with an educated guess or do i keep looking?

I found mine in that same year to Port Phillip- he stayed in Geelong and lived there - so i am happy with that. It is a while since I did it.

I doubt you'll get much better. Was the ticket of Leave there- does it show date? - that may link dates.

Does his death certificate or marriage certificate state how long in colony- not that it will help much with leaving- his Ticket of leave would be good.
You may just have to eliminate him: The Henry Wells arrived on Asia 1.. As you day there are a few. after 20 years of looking I'm not 100% convinced of my Michael (aka) William Flannagan !
