This Joseph Dunagan has proven to be the son of Thomas and Sarah Dunagan by several people.

Joseph Dunagan Sr. served on a grand Jury in 1763. He was a Methodist minister ,carpenter, pioneer and farmer. It is thought that it was Jury Joseph Jr. who signed the Articles of Agreement of Compact of The Government entered into by the settlers on the Cumberland River in Davidson County Tennessee on 1 May 1780 along with 230 other early settlers. In the early 1800's he travelled into the wilds of Kentucky and on the west side of the Mississippi River. He was reported to have been friends with Daniel Boone and assisted Daniel in the building of a block house in Tennessee on the spot where Nashville now stands.

Joseph DUNAGIN born about 1740. He was chain carrier March 5, 1762 on the Little River, Orange County, North Carolina for William. He settled in South Carolina after having signed an agreement establishing a govennment for the Cumberland River settlers, the Cumberland Compact. He later moved on to Georgia, Franklin County. 1790 Census Joseph Dunagan is listed in Pendleton South Carolina. Listed In the house are 3 males under 16, 2 over 16 , and 4 females. 1790 Census he is also listed in Georgia which shows he was in Georgia as one of the first settlers.

We know he had at least 6 sons and 3 or more daughters.

Land warrants granted to Joseph Dunagan 6 February 1792 Joseph was granted 200 acres and received 1 January 1793 the warrant.

Records of letter dated January 2 1792 written by Major Gaithrie and Major General Elijah Clark that a block house be built on Donegan land near Currahee Mountain.

In this letters from settlers to Governor his name is spelled Dunagin. His land was near Curahee Mountain on the upper north fork of Broad River.

Joseph Dunagan came to Georgia in 1792 and built Dunagan Station at Old Franklin Georgia. A leader amongst the settlers , he and his brother Joshua lead settlers into Indian territory where they established a settlement at a place called Stonethrow.

The circumstance of his time spent in court just prior to his death suggest he may have suffered injury that lead to his death in the altercation with Robert Seayres.

In March of 1758, William Moore filed a court action against John Dunnigan for debt of Moore's court appearance in the Charles Gibson case, There must be some relationship between Moore and Gibson as he testified for Gibson.
