Hi Ayden, I was born and raised in Scranton, Pennsylvania, USA. My Mom was Helen Genevieve McTiernan. Her father was Eugene Joseph McTiernan (28 Dec 1873-19 Jan 1940) His father was the immigrant, John McTiernan. The little information I have about him is from a photograph which had a bit of information written on the back. It said that he was born 19 Oct 1847 in Leitrim, Ireland. I know he was married to Mary Ann Donegan, but have no documented information about her. He had several children (10 or 11) by her--several of whom I knew as a child. If only I'd known to ask questions back then!!! Mary Ann died around 1886. John then married a widow, Bridget (Harnan) Lynott, who already had several children, and had three more daughters, only one of whom married and was childless. John died in 1897 as a result of a mining accident. His death certificate says "fractured back." I met Bridget as a child, and knew many of my great-aunts. I really need to do more work on this line. There is a McTiernan page put out by a man named Michael McTiernan, and who sponsors a DNA test to try to find out all we can about our forebears. I asked a cousin to do it for me, and we DO belong, but how is still a mystery. (http://McTiernan.com) The owner has ties to Australia, as do some of the other participants. John came to America and settled in Scranton, and as prolific as he was, I now have many cousins with whom I regularly am in contact on Facebook, in particular. I do wish whoever originally possessed that photograph of my great-grandfather was a bit more specific as to just where in Leitrim John was from. His obituary simply says Connaught. Since we seem to be fairly close in DNA, I would be VERY interested in as much of your Mom's background as you are willing to share. My email address is whitneymartin342@gmail.com. Thank you for responding to my message.
