Managers of Thomas Dickinson, of Ely,
I am contacting you about this profile: https://www.geni.com/people/Thomas-Dickinson-of-Ely/600000000644245...
Hello
According to research I have done on sites like familysearch.org and Ancestry.com, it seems thomas had 3 or 4 wives, and I think this is why we see some children named on Geni.com, while others are only on familysearch.org, and or Ancestry.com. I'm trying to clear this up as, other than dates that are a little off, wives and children of virtually all my other family members are not this mixed up. I will have to sit down and compile the info from these other states, so maybe we can figure out what is correct.
Thanks.
Ernest Dickinson
Hello
I have only been genealogy for about 6 months, and I have found Geni.com to be a useful tool; however I use Ancestry.com and family search.org. I was trying to trace Emily Dickinson's family tree due to my father always saying we were related. Of course I always took this with a grain of salt, but was able to trace her family tree back to Thomas Dickinson, of Ely MP
Birth: 1543 Ely, Cambridgeshire, England (United Kingdom)
Death: March 26, 1572 Ely, Cambridgeshire, England (United Kingdom), however I ran into trouble because I couldn't link William Dickinson, of Ely MP
Gender: Male Birth: circa 1570 Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England Death: 1629 (53-63)
Ely, Cambridgeshire, England (United Kingdom) back to Thomas despite the family tree with Emily Dickinson goes back to relatives prior to Thomas Dickinson.
After some hard work, I discovered a Familysearch.org page that helped it all make sense, The page bellow spells it all out and ends a lot of confusion, however I think they made an error having Thomas married to someone who has the same first same first and last name as his mother, but is just 3 years older than his mother, and would have been 53 when her oldest child was born. I think since Thomas' mother had no siblings named Elizabeth, however he had three sisters with the same name; so rather than marrying his mother, I wonder if one of his sisters might have been the mother of some of Thomas' kids as Judith Agnes Morgan Carey died in 1572, while his son Henry was born in 1590 at which time the person currently listed as his wife would have been 69. His eldest sister with the name Elizabeth would have been 50, the next sister that shared the name would have been 44, and his youngest sister with the name would have been 34 and he would have been 47. Oddly Thomas' oldest sister his eldest sister who is the first sister I listed has the last name Jenkin, I wonder if she might have been adopted. I know it was common for some of the Noblemen to marry a cousin or even sister; and to have kids, to keep the wealth in the family. figuring out who Thomas' wife Elisabeth is will help solve this confusion. I notice Gini only listed Judith Agnes Morgan Cowper (Carey) rather than list his other wives, I will be renewing Ancestry.com in a few months, so I can cross check what is on familysearch.org, but if anyone else would like to verify the info above, it would be appreciated.
Sincerely,
Ernest Dickinson, in the San Francisco Bay Area.
