HI Everyone,
Louise Stamps asked me to chime in on my knowledge of the Stampley Family of Mississippi.
My connection to Mississippi is that my my paternal (yDNA line) G3GF (James Rhodes Hazard, b1802) had a twin brother (Thomas Hazard b1802) and an older brother (Edmund Hazzard, b1800). My G3GF died in 1833. These two brothers left NC for Mississippi around 1836-39 and both show up in the Mississippi (Okitabbah and Yalobusha county respectively) federal census starting in 1840 and extending intermittently until 1880.
I am in the middle of reviewing the 600 page INDEX to property transactions
(on familysearch.org) in these two counties as I am looking for where Edmund and Thomas owned property hoping to lead to approximately where they were buried. The actual land transactions are only in Mississippi and are quite extensive - best to know specifically what box you are looking for by reviewing the index.
I have not been looking for the Stampley family surname but I will try to add that to my list surnames to look out for.
I have a good list of the Children, GC and GGC of Edmund (married Virginia Sathama of NC) and Thomas born(married Clarissa Ward of NC) in NC, TN and MS (birth years 1819-1857) and the Stampley surname does not show up as a spouse to any of their children I know about.
I also know about a dozen living descendants of Edmund and Thomas which I have aDNA matches to - does not show up there to my knowledge.
Regards and feel free to contact me directly,
Bradford Hazzard

Louise, I received your inquiry by email. I have many ancestors that dollowed the trail from Virginia and the Carolinas to Alabama and Mississippi, before ultimately winding up in Texas.
As there are so many of them, many of which dating back to the 1600’s, I am constantly unearthing family names that were heretofore unknown to me.
I am not currently aware of any connection to the Stampley family, but, as you and I are crossing paths in our searches, it would not at at all surprise me to one day discover the connection. If I do, I will be glad to update you! I wish you well in your endeavors!

I have Stampley's in my Curtis family that were in the Natches and Jefferson County area in the 1800's. If you join the facebook group, Rodney Historical Society about Rodney, Miss. you can probably find somethin about the Stampley family in the archives. There is a diary kept by Susan Sillers Darden that mentions the Stampley family often. This following url m ay take you to the diary.
