George Peterson - George Peterson's birth place

My mother, Suzette O'Connor (Shaw), daughter of Helen Jane Shaw (Peterson) and grand-daughter of George Peterson, was told that George was born in Madrid and both of his parents were from Denmark. She insists the 1920 census birthplace data is incorrect. I am looking for more information on where he was born and who his parents were.
