Curious. Geni has my mother's first husband (1945) listed as my step-father. How is he my step-father when I am from a much later second marriage and there is no blood tie? Is it how I have linked him? This can't be right. Thanks

Private User where do you see that?

When I look at my tree and click on her first husband.

Kazimierz Pilarski is your stepfather.

That seems to be a bug.

Thanks. I submitted a ticket

Unfortunately that is an error they don't want to or is difficult to correct, - the algorithm does not look at dates and marriage order, only connections.
Your mothers first husband will be listed as your stepfather even if he died long time before you was born and/or have never has acted as a stepfather. You have the same situation if your mother remarries after you have moved out of home, - I would never call my mothers second husband a stepfather if he never have acted as one, even if he theoretically would be one. Geni should not assume familiar connections.

I would recommend Geni to stop using the step- notation in general because it might insult so many people. Your mothers first husband should just be your mothers first husband.

Customer Service?

I completely agree. I never even met him. He would not, theoretically, be my step-father since he did not live with my mother after I was born. He was simply the first husband. I am going to try to separate the branch - after I hear a response to my 'ticket'.
