He was the son of John “Hellfire Jack” Rogers and his first wife Elizabeth Emory, a Cherokee woman.
Also, he had only two known wives, He had two children, Pleasant and Eliza Rogers, by Nannie Downing. He married Rachel Hughes, the granddaughter of Nan-ye-hi/Nancy Ward, about 1807. They were the parents of at least eight children:
