The Visitation of Yorkshire of 28 Aug 1665 says, "Michaell Hardy of Wetwang m. Alison Skelton was descended from Hardy, sometime Lord Mayor of London."

Could the ancestor be William Hardell (4th sheriff / mayor) with various name changes and simply lost to history William Hardell was also the only commoner Magna Carta Surety and I believe the Hardy's were also thought to be descendants of a Surety.

William Hardell, Lord Mayor of London, Magna Carta Surety

Just a thought.

The branch as shown here doesn't agree with the source provided, and is perhaps instead following the one on Ancestry which is also referenced on the profile. As it stands it doesn't provide much referential help for research.

Geni has Michael's wife, Alison Skelton, married to a fictional brother.

William Hardel, mayor of London and Magna Carta Surety, founded a wine-production "dynasty", which suggests to me that he had a family (not represented here, as he exists in total isolation).

The dates are sketchy, but I would have assumed someone closer chronologically, such as Sir John Hart, MP, Lord Mayor of London

Spelled Harte with an "E" elsewhere, and whose ancestor or relative may have been Sir John Harte, Of the Middle Temple, Barrister at Law whose son, Sir Percival Hart, Kt. is mentioned in History of Parliament.

Sir Moyle Finch, MP, 1st Baronet

(I assume the Ancestry source refers to the branch having originally been imported here from that site.)

This is great info I'll look into it. Thank you!
