Michael McGee was not a McGehee descendant. Based on records found in Edgecombe County, NC, he was the son of William “McGee” who was deeded land there in 1733.
I am a direct male descendant of Michael, and Y-DNA testing proves that there was not a relationship to the McGehee’’s (Mackgehee’s) of Virginia. Our DNA does match that of the descendants of John Magee of Edgecombe County who moved to Duplin County, NC circa 1758. Many of John’s descendants are found in Mississippi and Louisiana. John Magee and Solomon Magee were also sons of William McGee of Edgecombe.
