Michelle Angelique Stein Is looking into the ancestry of Thomas Dabney Carr and we ran into questions / conflicting sources for parents of his parents, Susannah Carr & Gideon Carr, Sr.

There’s a baptism record for Gideon:

"Virginia Births and Christenings, 1584-1917", database, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:VRRH-3SB : 28 January 2020), Wm. Carr in entry for Gideon Carr, christened 8 Feb 1712

But I don’t see evidence William Carr had a son Gideon, or a wife Catherine Winston Carr - at least, there isn’t a Gideon in his Will.

We have a note that perhaps Gideon died before the will was created, or otherwise was left out. But the documents attached to William’s profile don’t suggest a Winston wife or a Gideon son, either.

We’ve disproved the origin story of “Sandige” for his wife Susanna. So there’s some progress, made.

This is the current https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Carr-414.

Particularly hope to hear from Suzan Martin who worked on this tree before.

And as a note, i don’t see that Willam Carr (d 1760) was ever in New Kent County to have a child baptized there. He was died in Spotsylvania (formed 1721). New Kent County at least 75 miles away.

Gideon Sr. b.Jan.1,1712 in New Kent Co VA.d.(will probated) April 14,1783 Albemarle VA m. to Susannah Meekins, they had nine children:William Carr,Thomas Carr, Elizabeth (Betty)Carr,John Carr,

Gideon Carr Jr. b.Nov.5,1752,Albemarle VA d.March 21,1844 Dickson TN(Revoluntionary soldier,D.A.R. chapter named for him in White Bluff,TN)m.to Anne Sandige.

That explains the Sandige name, it’s the next generation. More progress! Thank you, Eugene Thomas

What about https://www.genealogy.com/forum/surnames/topics/carr/5691/

Descendants of Gideon CARR son of William CARR & Miss Chiles eldest daughter of John CHILES & 1st wife Mary (?) CHILES.

Is that parentage proven? This Gideon was seen with a middle name “Winston.”

I just noticed the Geneanet and F.A.G. sources for the family in that period of the family. It appears that Wilson would have come from Gideon's mother's surname as happens quite a lot in older times. The surname turned middle name theme continues with Gideon and Susanna's son Thomas Dabney who had a son named Thomas (middle name withheld, if any ... boo haha) and that Thomas with his wife Anne Sanders had his own Gideon Winston Carr and another son named Thomas as well (a third Thomas in a row) and his son's name was John Harpole Carr after his mother Mary Harpole.

A possible reason why Gideon was not mentioned in his will was because it appears he was only 3 months old when William passed.

Things seem to fit so if you would like more info to answer anything, I will look again. I think it feels fine to just continue at this point. I'm satisfied with it for now but if we come to this again, here it is in noted discussions haha.

Exactly the point of this discussion.

There is a good recent study for Dabneys so if I’ll try to dig it up and see if Gideon shows up there. I am always suspicious of FindAGrave unless they have sources cited and / or tombstone images.
