Managers of Elspeth (Elizabeth) Grant,

I am contacting you about this profile: Elspeth Grant

It is common to find in on-line genealogies that Thomas Grant 7th Laird of Glenmoriston and Elspeth Grant listed as the parents of John Bain Grant (b: Scotland, 1716-d: Hobart, New York, United States, 1792).

I have evidence that this is wrong.

I am a direct patrilineal descendant of the John Grant who died in Hobart in 1792. As such, my Y-DNA is identical to his. The Grant Y-DNA project is analyzing the Y-DNA from males with Grant surnames. (https://www.familytreedna.com/groups/grant/about/background) The project has Y-DNA from Glenmoriston descendants. Their Y-DNA is different from mine.

I asked Geoff Grant of the Grant Y-DNA project the following: "Do I have enough evidence to inform the numerous amateur genealogists who have pegged my ancestor John Grant as a son of Thomas Grant?" He replied, "In regards to Thomas, you have plenty of evidence. There is at least 10 Glenmoristons in the project so I’m sure of the non-match."

Y DNA but received on the profile this Discussion is started on.
I am unable to look at this today
