My Grandmothers sister looks to have been named after Matilda here, their Aunt Matilda. I believe she may be buried in a Taradale cemetery with her husband - I wondered how the connection came about.
My mother was named after her Aunty also and holds Matilda as one of her birth names, I thought it was quite a unique name for a Maori lady to be given, I've always liked it once I got over the shock of knowing it was one of my mums names. her sisters have interesting names also - Angelina Gertrude, Josephine, Dorothy.....
