Here on Geni at the moment, we have Alice de Clifford married to Fernán Rodríguez de Aza

Now, this is not in question; there are reliable histories that give the Englishwoman Alice de Clifford married to de Aza -- they met each other when de Aza was part of the Iberian visitors at the court of John of Gaunt -- see for instance -- https://www.google.com/books/edition/England_and_Iberia_in_the_Midd...

So that's very clear and good.

The problem with this profile as we have it is that Alice's parentage is not clear. And the references to her marriage to de Aza do not include her parents -- just that she is a de Clifford.

We have, at this writing. Robert de Clifford, 3rd Lord of Skipton, Sheriff of Westmoreland as her father. But no Alice shows up in the records, as far as I have found so far, as a child of Robert's. This connection shows up in unsourced family web trees.

The profile has had other fathers attached to it before Robert. The first was John de Clifford, 7th Baron Clifford John did have a daughter named Alice, but she married a Dalton -- see https://books.google.com/books?id=arAfWBsvO1gC&pg=PA495&lpg=PA495&d... -- though we have that Alice as the daughter of Roger Clifford, instead of John, at the moment. (Roger is coming up later.)

Another father was Thomas de Clifford, 6th Baron Clifford -- he had no child named Alice.

Another father was Roger de Clifford, 5th Lord Clifford -- he had no daughter named Alice, though at the moment he has John's daughter Alice, married to a Dalton.

Then Thomas was her father again. Then Roger again. Then Thomas again. Then John again. Then Thomas. Then Roger.

Then Robert de Clifford, 4th Lord Clifford -- he didn't have any children, so Alice is right out.

And then finally the profile landed on Robert de Clifford, 3rd Lord of Skipton, as her father.

Does anyone know of any actual evidence -- NOT unsourced family web trees -- giving Alice de Clifford a father?

Because, if not, we need to detach her from parents.

Hi Anne,

At Biblioteca Nacional de España, in Madrid, In 2016, I found in a book a footnote that said Fernán Rodríguez de Aza, married Alice de Clifford, daughter of lord R. de Clifford I don't have the title of the book because I found the tinformation and I wrote it down on a paper and when I arrived to my home in Bogotá. I updated on Geni the information. If I return to my country soon I'm also Spanish I will go to the BNE and try to find the mentioned book.

Please do.

I found references, but no father for her, and there is no record that I can see of Robert de Clifford having a daughter named Alice.

Nothing have been said since 5/20 but I do want to point out that if what Felipe did say is true and the only name that is mentioned is Lord R. de Clifford then there are three possibilities:
- Lord Robert de Clifford 3rd
- Lord Roger de Clifford 5th
- Lord Rober the Clifford 4th
Her mother might be questionable as well if she was not mentioned. Alice could have been illegitimate.

Do we know the name of the book?
