My Autosomal DNA is pretty much split down the middle half Ashenaz and half French/German/European/Other.

My mothers ancestors came from areas of Europe highly overlapping the Ashkenazi areas so it's not surprising that my mitochondrial DNA is shared with so many people who are Ashkenaz. What it also means to me that if I follow up the femaie lines of Ancestors AFAIK I go back to my great grandmother was Afrikaans - Elizabeth Minnie.

I wonder if there are others with a similar pattern who can help me shed some light on common ancestry, or consider what the implications can be. For example, my first cousin (daughter of the sister of my mother) turns out to have 33% Autosomal Ashkenazi DNA which allowed her to work out her father was the product of an illicit affair conducted by her grandmother.

Thoughts?

Hello,

I would guess that your great-grandmother was probably not Afrikaans. Where did you take your test?

Is there any way to share a photo of my grandmother with unknown siblings (i'm assuming) in hopes someone may recognize anyone?
