He'd be a great Uncle to me, I guess, my great grandfather Elisha Maddox was his brother. I presume he was named after his grandfather or great granfather, whichever, Hezikiah Maddox b 1777 or so in Maryland. Its believed he was a son traveling with MOST of his family who immigrated over the Applachians, probably thru Ft Necessity to the Ohio River and barged downstream, getting off across from what is now Cincinatti and on the South side, what was to become Campbell County, Ky, where the Maddoxes settled along the Licking River and cleared the land for their farms.

During the time of THIS Hezekiah, his large family must have been fairly successful with a nice home, land, even money for a rare large family photo that someone uploaded on Ancestry long ago (and I put a cameo from it) here.) There was an early privately written softcover book by Richard Stevens called "Snow Hill Remembered." he was commissioned by another family to research their roots and he got much of it right, some of it wrong, and it took twenthieth century genealogists to find what he didn't and got wrong. Even then, some genealogists suspected he was mistaken about this line; I published his account in the 90s on the web and later had to retract it when Diana Bara fm Colorado discovered from land records that the descendant Stevens named to migrate to Ky never left Maryland. This tree on Geni has too many of Stevens (and therefore my) mistakes. THe proof I finally accepted is on the other tree company sites, pointing this line NOT to Samuel Maddox who immigrated to MD in 1665 but rather to Cornelius Maddox who came a bit later but both families lived either in St Marys MD or St Charles county next door. I would be interested in first hand research from anyone with new material to add or validation of any of it to Byron Maddox b 1946 at maddoxfamilywebsitekc@gmail.com
