It is very peculiar to list someone as "Captain" in their display name, but to have no information whatsoever in their biography stating what military they were a captain *in*. He was the right age to have served in the Revolutionary War (being about 36 at the time of the start of the Revolution), but again, no mention of his service.
Can anyone explain?

Great question!

He's referred to as "Capt. Daniel Phelps" in a few issues ofvthe (very good) Phelps Connection newsletter, but I haven't hit on any details yet. It's certainly a well-known family, so I'll keep poking about for you.

I found the answers! His data fields had some inaccuracies that were making him hard to track down.

It's indeed the Revolutionary War, and I'll get him cited and tidied up shortly (busy morning, sorry).

I'm not sure I am looking at the same person under discussion...Pvt. Daniel Phelps

His wife, on FAG, list her tomestone inscription as "Wife of Capt. Daniel"

I hope my contribution will help your issues.

I found some data on Daniel Phelps which I had included to his profile with links to Ancestry.com and WikiTree to his profile of documents. As of now he is a Private served In the CT Militia, under12th Reg of COL Obadiah Hosford, and Co. Cmdr CPT Joshua Phelps. It's your turn to prove that he was commission to Captain. Good luck. Ken
