I navigated to the 1916 Rebellion Project with the hope of seeing links to all the participants. Perhaps I'm mistaken (or should understand that its because its a subset of the Irish Project) but I see it at as having 100% of the focus on the Irish (rebel) element and nothing on the other side's participants in the conflict. I'm not trolling or seeking to stir up emotions, but shouldn't the project cover the event in its entirety,? Failing that, shouldnt the name of this project reflect that it only covers the Irish people?

Hello,

Yes, this project is specifically about Irish volunteers in the Easter Rising. If you'd like, you could start a project for British soldiers who participated in suppression efforts? Something like "1916 Easter Rising in Ireland - British Forces"?

We very commonly do companion projects with historic conflicts like this, so I see no reason why we couldn't do the same here.

Thanks I might do that. The reason I asked is that I had a (South African) grandfather who volunteered to join the British Army in preparation for WWI. He was training somewhere in Ireland and was ordered to help quell the Uprising. He had no background knowledge of the Irish question but hated the entire experience!

Let me know if you need help setting a project up, connecting the two, etc. More than happy to assist.

It's a really important topic! Tens of thousands of men from throughout the British Empire were involved, and it would be interesting to figure out what research resources are available.

Globally, historians now use "Easter Rising" as the preferred term, but I believe some British historians continue to use "Easter Rebellion." I've noticed that in more recent publications there, the tide has changed a bit, though, and the British National Army Museum officially calls the it the "Easter Rising" now as well. Everything is politics. :)
