Jeffrey Manning Was the son of John Manning & Elizabeth Manning
Quoting from "The English Origin of Jeffery Manning of Piscataway, New Jersey"; The American Genealogist, No 341 Jan-Apr 2012 (Pub Oct 2013) Vol 86 No 1 pp 1-10 by Clifford L Stott and Patricia Donaldson-Mills,
"As early as 1910, it was claimed in "Genealogical and Memorial History of the State of New Jersey" that Jeffery Manning of Piscataway was the son of John Manning, who came to New England at the age of 20 aboard the Globe in 1635. John was living in Boston with a wife Abigail in 1640. Like many published genealogies of the early twentieth century, no evidence was provided to support Jeffery Manning's claimed origin. Nevertheless, in the decades that followed, published accounts have repeatedly asserted that Jeffery is the son of John and Abigail."
The article then goes forward to prove that Jeffery is actually the son of John Manning and Abigail Goodye of Hawstead, Suffolk, England.
