Hallo Jim, I am not very good with these tings too but I understand that the way to link your FtDNA results is to follow the procedure described here

At some point they will do this (you can't do anything else) and your DNA results will be showing and that accounts for all the DNA results you have on the link between the two database. In my case the DNA results are either very distant or not very specific. Much depends if the possible matches have tested, in my case, obviously not.
