Re the USA family of Aaron and Terezia Wasserman(n)
https://www.geni.com/family-tree/index/6000000151376586974

The above family including their children (Emma, Joseph, Hattie, Dina, all born Germany) arrived in the USA c1907 and appear on various USA censuses and other official marriage and death registrations after that date.
see 1910 census
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:33SQ-GRJD-LQD?view=inde...

The problem is that some census entries record the family TWICE, but their ages on those censuses differ significantly.
I am therefore a little concerned as to which is their true age and which is just a fabrication. Take daughter Emma as an example,
In 1910 she was 18, in 1915 she was only 12, in 1928 (marriage) she was 28, by 1970 (death) she was back to having an 1891 birth.

I have asked known relatives for a birth year clarification, and in the meantime wonder if any of you can also come up with a plausible explanation?

Regards Roy

Roy - by "some census entries record the family TWICE" -- can you give us which years the which folks appear twice?
I know my father appears twice on the 1920 Census, for example.

I have an aunt who aged 7 years from one census to another, and another relative who got away with trimming over 15 years off her age for her official record in a different state.
Seeing different implied birth years seems totally normal to me.

If there is no worry that we might be conflating different people, I usually go with earliest reported or implied dob.

Emma is age 16 on the 1907 NY Arrival Record - Nationality: Germany -- Race: Hebrew (traveling with what are apparently her parents, Aron and Therese, and 3 siblings Lina, Leopoldina , and Joseph)
She is 18 on 1910 Census.
***On the 1915 Census she is age 22 not age 12. See Document in he Media Tab -- I uploaded that one a bit ago and have it Public -- let me know if you agree.***
Nothing surprising or unusual, I would think, about her lying about her age at time of marriage.

I am no good at reading German (or whatever language this is) -- but this record appears in Emma's Media Tab in Photos: https://media.geni.com/p14/e1/14/54/83/53444862f5eecbc9/emmadonsaft...
Is it by any chance a Birth Record, or what is it? And what info does it give?

I uploaded a number of Documents for Emma = Emma Reinhardt
a while ago in response to a prior discussion.
They include 1915 Census showing her age 22 (not 12) - At leat, that is definitely what I see!!

And this Death Notice https://www.newspapers.com/article/daily-news-obituary-for-emma-rei... makes it clear the Emma who died in March 1970 is this Emma

Private User did not actually tag you before.
And Alex Moes
You have both been active on Emma's profile ( Emma Reinhardt )

Could you each look at the copy of the actual 1915 Census - it is in her Media Tab -- and let us know if you agree her age on the 1915 Census, looking at it carefully yourself now, is 22 -- or ??
Do you agree the Death Notice in the post above is for her or ???

And Alex, can you let us know what type of record this is: https://www.geni.com/photo/view?photo_id=6000000193434405833 and what info does it provide?

Lois
The twice entries were for Aaron Wasserman

New York State Census, 1915

Repeated as Aaron Wasserman
New York State Census, 1915

Birth 1850

Children Dinah Wasserman, Enna Wasserman, Joseph Wasserman

Emma was noticeably missing in the second census, but I now fully appreciate by the sequencing that her age was more likely to have been 22 than the transcribed age of 12, so I thank you for that correction. I also hope you can appreciate that it was a quite logical mistake to make.when she purported to be born c1900 when she married a man of also born c1900,

I did not find a death notice for Emma, only two conflicting US Social security death registrations for an Emma Reinhardt supporting both years of birth.

And yes I fully appreciate the many links to sources that you and others have provided on the respective profiles. Regrettably, those of us without additional membership of My Heritage and Ancestry are still at a disadvantage, for we are still unable to view some documents that those two organizations only make available to their paying subscribers.

Thanks for the link to the actual death notice, that certainly verifies the earlier birth date.

1) AncestryLibrary can be seen free in many Public Libraries, at least in the US. I use it. I do not have a paid Ancestry Account.
2) Ancestry and, I believe, MyHeritage Library can be accessed free at any History Center
3) Documents that have been downloaded and uploaded to Geni can be set to private or public.
If set to private, they can be seen by those in Max Family of anyone tagged in it.
If set to public, they can be seen by any Geni User -- possibly also non-users.

I know everybody does not have access to all the Data Bases. That is why I try to add as many documents as possible to profiles.
When people have bothered to upload documents, they should be checked out, especially if it is not a document one has access to in a Data Base.

You noticed age 12 in 1915 was out of line -- if you also noticed it was one of the documents uploaded to her profile, it should have occurred to you -- lets look and see if it was uploaded as Public, and if so, does it look definitely like age 12 to me.
Or at least, that is how I HOPE someone would think. If not, it makes my efforts sort of pointless.

A combination of AncestryLibrary, which I use free and which now indexes much in newspapers.com and newspapers.com which I pay for lets me find lots of Death Notices. Again, I had purposely added the link to it to her Death Event in the Timeline Tab.

It is frustrating to realize I had gone to all that work, had those pieces on her Profile, you were seriously trying to look into her details -- and those pieces were not something you noticed at all.
Feel free to PM me with suggestions of what I should do so that is less likely to keep happening.

Private User I am not sure if this is the link you intended? https://www.geni.com/photo/view?photo_id=6000000193434405833

That is not a document uploaded to me, perhaps you meant to tag Alice?

My high school German lessons equipped me to order coffee and find the train station, i would have to start typing it into google translate manually.

Alex Moes - I meant to tag you. But cannot give a good explanation why I was sure you would be able to read and explain it. Very sorry to hear that is not one of your skills. Sure not mine either.
