According to the VoC document his name was Barent Búrgertsz (on the index to folio 153) out of Halberstad, Germany. He was commissioned as a soldier at the age of 18 (if born in 1668) on the ship "Huis te Zilverstein" on Friday, 24 May 1686. He resigned from the VoC on Thursday, 24 April 1687 after arriving at the Cape of Good Hope.

If this information is credible could you please update the Geni profile accordingly. Barend is my 7th great grandfather.

There are several examples of his signature extant - I cannot decide if he signs his name Barendt or Berndt. His surname he consistenly signs as Borghert or Borchert. https://www.ballfamilyrecords.co.uk/burger/I119.html

This is the French version as the records from Drakenstein (Paarl) were from the French speaking church records.

"Marthe Escalk"

Her father was "Wellem Schalk van den Merven" - correctly stated in the Geni profile.

She is referred to Maria or Marthe Willemsz (French) - or Schalk or Escalk (French) indicating that she is the daughter of "Wellem Schalk".
