Family Search (which I don't always credit for anything but sources) has listed Samuel Sarvis as the son of Samuel Sarvis and "unknown."

It gives a birthdate of 1770 and a death date of 1859, but no source for death date and no census.

From Ancestry, an older Samuel "Service"

Samuel was not born until after the 1790 census it appears so will need to find an 1800. I think I have a hard copy in my files somewhere.

Samuel is not named in the detailed will of John Sarvis, II The different parent would explain the situation.

Samuel Sr. and Jr. lived next door to each other according to the census. Then the house of William Suggs? and then John.

The Samuels are noted as Jr. and Sr.

I have added the Service card where Wife of Samuel "Jr." Rhoda Watts Sarvis applied for a War of 1812 pension. Added Samuel to the 1812 project.

I've been consulting with a Sarvis researcher and she is convinced from data that she has collected that there is a

There was a Samuel 1795

There was a Samuel 1770

There was a Samuel c. 1720 who received a grant for land from the Governor for service in the Indian Wars in Georgetown District.

I am going to have to do a lot more digging, but I have confirmed the 1795 and 1770 one.

Questions: Given their proximity - Are Samuel 1795 and John Sarvis II brothers? Does this upend the weird parents listed for John who were in NJ? Maybe. More research....

Find a Grave states that this Samuel is the son of Samuel Sarvis and Elizabeth Reynolds. Date of birth (1770) seems incompatible with census data, but will keep researching. That may be the date of birth of Samuel who married Elizabeth. Based on later census info, it seems that he was probably born in mid 1790s.

Find a grave also states that Rhoda was a 2nd wife and not the mother of John Reynolds Sarvis due to the marriage date of 4 August 1814.

Pension application papers for Rhoda Watts Savis show that Samuel died in March, 1830. This is consistent with Census data that I can find.

From Family Search note on profile of

John Sarvis' service is documented. I can't find service of William or Samuel 1770 or of an earlier Samuel.

So here we are presented a William Sarvis who may be connected to John in someway and who may be the father of Samuel 1770 instead of another Samuel.

More census ticks and data. Will search for a William Sarvis in 1790 census. Found nothing so far in the online archives.

I have seen John Sarvis' name written as John William Sarvis and there is no evidence of that. Could the name be a combination or confusion of brothers????

One day it will be clear. Right now, it is clear as mud, but it will get better.
