I am currently researching James Bennett Moore, who is reportedly is a 'Sir' supposedly received the Tower and Sword Order. I have to wonder if this title affiliated with James is an 'error'.
James’s name does not appear on the list of recipients of the ‘Tower and Sword Order’:

However, Royal Navy Officer Graham Moore’s (no relation) name is on the list for that year. On further research on Officer Graham Moore, in Wikipedia it states:
‘In 1808, he served as commodore, flying his broad pennant in the new ship Marlborough[1] assisting Admiral Sir Sidney Smith with the Portuguese royal family's escape to Brazil,[1] and was subsequently made a Knight of the Order of the Tower and Sword.[2]’
Furthermore, in the 'A Naval Biographical Dictionary: comprising the life and services of every living officer in Her Majesty’s navy, from the rank of admiral of the fleet to that of lieutenant, inclusive’, page 777, it states that indeed Officer Graham Moore was the recipient of the Order and was the person responsible for the Portuguese royal family's escape:

Also there is confusion in the family and conflicting information as to how James received this medal.
Below is the link to the death notice of one of his sons, William George Moore, which states that his father was ‘Sir James B. Moore, K.T.S’ (Knight of the Military Order of the Tower and Sword (of Portugal).

In an article in the Adelaide Herald in 1899 on one of James’s grandsons states that his knighthood was bestowed ‘by Queen Isabella of Spain for services rendered by him during the civil war between her troops and those of Don Pedro.’

This appears to be that the story got twisted along the generations.
