I see that here on Geni the parentage of Elias Jernigan are uncertain, so I thought I'd share this info from Ancestry. I have many Jernigan and Coleman DNA matches on Ancestry, since I'm a direct descendant of both families. Anyway, some of them show this Elias' father as Frederick Jernigan:

Frederick JERNIGAN
BIRTH1749 Wayne Co, NC, USA

Family Info

Father
George M. JERNIGAN (1730–1792)

Mother
Lydia Keene (1750–1797)

Spouse Unknown

Children:
Elias (1802–1870)
Calvin (1811–)
Frederick W. (1854–1925)

I don't know if the info is correct, but maybe has some clues. ?

Found a tree showing Frederick's wife as Zelpha Wiggs. The tree this is from has Elias listed as Cuzza which I see often. I saw in one where both Elias and his wife Keziah are called Cuzza, which has made me wonder if the name 'Cuzza' is a variation for Keziah and that's how it got mixed into their names. ?

Birth Abt. 1749 Wayne County, North Carolina, Colonial America
Death Horry Co, SC,
Father George M Jernigan
Mother Lydia Keene
Spouse Zelpha wiggs jernigan
Child Cuzza Jernagan

Thanks, Debbie Gambrell. I will add this to the mix of info. It is all a confusing mess, but maybe we can untangle it somehow.

This Elias Jernigan of Horry may be related to him or be the same person. I honestly do not know. In some ways, I tried to work from the bottom to the top trying to make connections to see where they led sometime back.

That's what I was doing, working from bottom from DNA matches up to the connecting common ancestors. There's not a lot of info on them on Ancestry, just a few Hints from a few trees. It's a cousin branch for me, so I'm not familiar enough with the connecitons to be much help.

We will keep on working on it, Debbie Gambrell. I do so appreciate it. The Jernigan's married into my family. I think I may be kin to all in Horry County through Elias of Horry and his wife Mary - though I have yet to connect any children to them. They are the first I can find. I have to go back to the census records.
