There is an 1881 NYC Marriage Record for Samuel Goldstein and Anna Sampliner
Samuel Goldstein = Samuel Goldstein
Anna = Anna Goldstein

Their child MaryMae E Englander is the grandmother of one of my third cousins.
Anna's Death Notice includes the info that she lived in New York for 26 years before moving to Cleveland "ten years ago" so about 1905.
[Links here: https://www.geni.com/discussions/269272?msg=1650287]

But Geni has their children also including:
Dora = Dora Miller born April 10, 1888 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
Bessie = Bessie Myers born April 1884 in Russia
Benjamin = Benjamin Goldstein born July 1885 in Pennsylvania, USA
Abraham = Albert Abraham Stein born February 1890 in Ohio, USA
Joseph = Joseph Goldstein born September 1893 in Ohio, USA
even tho the couple living in NYC from 1881 thru 1905

And Geni also has 3 children of the couple private to me, so do not know about them.

Alix Gottlober is the 2nd great grandchild of Samuel and Anna thru their daughter Dora, according to Geni.
Alix - I fear at least two families have been conflated.

There is a 1900 Census for a Samuel and Anna Goldstein with
Samual Goldstein. 40 Head
Anna Goldstein. 39 Wife
Bessie Goldstein. 16 Daughter - born Russia
Benjamin Goldstein 14 Son - born Pennsylvania
Dora Goldstein. 11 Daughter - born Ohio
Abraham Goldstein. 10 Son - born Ohio
Joseph Goldstein. 6 Son - born Ohio
David Goldstein 2 Son - born Ohio
Harry Goldstein 3/12 Son - born Ohio
--parents plus first 5 children match names on Geni. And search shows David is one of Private children, and Harry is one.
However, this Census has Dora born Apr 1889. In Ohio not 1888 in Pennsylvania
And there is no Mary or Mae nor anyone who might be her.

The 1908 Ohio Marriage Record for Dora Goldstein and Nathan Miller shows that Dora Goldstein as the daughter of a Samuel and Anna Goldstein and as age 20, born in Pittsburgh, Pa

I have deleted the Discussion linked to in the first post.

It seems clear there are probably at least THREE couples named Samuel and Anna Goldstein who have been conflated here.

I have added a second set of Samuel and Anna Goldstein as parent of Mary/Mae.
And a third set for everyone not actually a sibling of Mary/Mae or Dora who married Nathan Miller
Since Alix is descended from Dora who married Nathan Miller, I will leave the couple she created as the parents of that Dora.

The Death Notice for the Anna Goldstein who is the mother of Mary/Mae is included on her Find-A-Grave Memorial - https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/173698490/anna-s-goldstein
where Mary/Mae is referred to as "Mrs. A.R. Englander". and I have uploaded a copy of the original Newspaper Page - legible enough to see it seems to match what is typed in the Memorial - and I have included the info in the Timeline Event of that Anna's Death.

I have now separated the family of Mary/Mae -
she is MaryMae E Englander
and the Samuel and Anna Goldstein who are her parents are
Samuel Gordon = Samuel (Goldstein) Gordon
and
Anna Goldstein = Anna (Sampliner) Goldstein who died in Ohio in 1915

Doing a search in the Cleveland Public Necrology Files on 8/26/2023, I found
"Name: Gordon (Goldstein), Samuel
Date: Mar 24 1940
Source: unknown, Reel #31
Notes: Gordon (Goldstein), Samuel, age 85, passed away Friday. Father of Mrs. Henrietta Helman, Maurice, Mrs. May Englander, David P., Mrs. Rose Soso, Mrs. Minnie Benjamin, the late Emanuel W. and nine grandchildren. Funeral 2 p. m. Sunday from Cleveland Temple Memorial, Euclid at E. 90 st. Interment Lansing Cemetery. Youngstown (O.) and New York City papers please copy. Kindly omit flowers."

All children listed there go to this couple. There is no Dora listed, neither in living nor as "the late".

I can not get the other two families cleanly separated since there are three profiles that are private to me:

Based on a suggested match https://www.geni.com/merge/compare/6000000197578213840?return=match...
one <private> (Goldstein) is Minnie Goldstein born 1897 and may in reality be a sibling of Mary/Mae not Dora (Goldstein) Miller
that is Private (ID 6000000183469026113 )

Another <private> (Goldstein) showed as David born 1897 in a Suggested Match for David P (Goldstein) Gordon
The latter was a sibling of Mary/Mae who was born about 1893, so I rejected that suggested match.
That is Private (ID 6000000183469025927 )
I suspect he is the David in the 1900 Census I mention above.

The third one is a Harry per the names given in the Suggested Merges above - that is Private (ID 6000000183469025938) and I suspect he is a match to Harry in the 1900 Census above, but need more info to be sure.

IF the 1900 Census is wrong as to the Birth Location of Dora (or the records saying born Pittsburgh are), then might that be the Dora that married Nathan Miller??

the Necrology Files at the Cleveland Public Library include:
"Name: Blau, Dora
Date: May 7 1941
Source: unknown, Reel #8
Notes: Blau: Dora (nee Miller), beloved wife of Max Blau, mother of Sadie Lillian and Erving, sister of the late Bessie Myers, and brothers, passed away Monday at 8:45 a. m. Funeral from the Lifshetz-Miller Funeral Home, 744 E. 105 st., Wednesday, at 2:30 p. m."

IF Dora Blau was not "nee Miller" but rather was Miller by previous Marriage -- then ??
-- the 1900 Census above has a Dora, a Bessie and the rest of the children are boys

and it looks like that Bessie married Isse Myers, and her mother 's maiden name was "Annie Friedman"

So not as sure as I was that there are 3 families. But ...

Son on Nathan Miller's Petition for Naturalization is Issie - born 9 July 1912 (wife is Dora, etc)

Could this be the same person listed on World War II Draft Reg. as Isadore Erwin Miller born 7-11-1912 - so difference of 2 days in date of Birth?
Am guessing yes.
On WWII Draft Reg., originally living at 727 E 99th St. -- person who is Mrs. Dora Miller - Mother - at same address.
On 1940 Census there is Dora Blau and Erwin I Miller living at that address - he is her son, and age 27.
So looks like same folks.

Have returned all children in the 1900 Census referred to above to the Original Samuel and Anna Goldstein.

As for their Mother, I have found the following which are likely all for this family:
--In OH Marriage - Lewis D. Stein / Winifred Levy - his Father: Samuel -- his mother: Anna Friedman
--In OH Marriage - Isse Myers / Bessie Goldstein - her Father: Sam Goldstein -- her Mother: Annie Friedman
--In OH Marriage - Nathan Miller / Dora Goldstein - her Father: Samuel -- her Mother: Annie Goldstein
--in the U.S., Social Security Applications and Claims Index, 1936-2007 (per AncestryLibrary): Albert Stein -- Birth Date 23 Feb 1890 -- Birth Place Cleveland, Ohio -- Father Samuel Stein -- Mother Anna Friedman -
--In OH Marriage - Harry C Stein / Anna Levine -- his Father: Samuel -- his Mother: Anna Friedman
----
So it looks like her Birth Surname was Friedman

Currently she is listed as Anna (Indursky mendosky sampliner) Goldstein
and Daughter of Sam Indursky and Bessie.

Birth surname(s) and parents almost certainly wrong.
Samuel father of this family had the death date for the Samuel father of Mary/Mae not the death date for this Samuel - have changed it.

The Anna Goldstein who was mother of Mary/Mae (Goldstein) Englander died in 1915. After that, her husband Samuel Goldstein changed the surname he used to Gordon, as did others in the family.
That Anna's birth surname was Sampliner.

The Samuel and Anna Goldstein who were the parents of Dora (Goldstein) Miller changed the surname they used to Stein, as did others in the family.
It seems that Anna's birth surname was probably Friedman or Freedman
