Isn't he fairly well acknowledged as the son of Austin Goodwin (1678-1733) who died in Somerset England? Austin Goodwin married Susannah Lyde (it appears) in about 1715 and Wm and Mary Quarterly says:
"Austin Goodwin born in England married Susanna Lyde born February 12 1678, daughter of Cornelius and Mary (Blatch) Lyde. By occupation he was a merchant and was sheriff of Bristol, 1765. They resided in Bristol England. Children: iiNathaniel, married Ann Egles; ii Austin, married Ann Muggleworth, iiiCornelius married ____ and d.s.p.; iv. Lionel; v. Lyde, born 1718, married Pleasance Ridgely; vi. Mary, married Benjamin Fox; vii. Ann, married John Dixon; viiiElizabeth, married William Hutton, of Bristol, ix Esther, d.s.p.; x. susanna, married Thomas Kingston."
