Profiles Mentioned:

Janet Miles arrived in Sydney, Australia on the sailing ship the Telegraph in 1853. She was listed as a dairymaid from Stirlingshire, Scotland. The passengers banded together and placed an advertisement in the local paper with all their names, thanking the captain for their safe journey.
She married Donald Cook Duncan in 1855 and their first daughter Jant Jessie Duncan (called Jessie) was born in 1956 in Wooloolmooloo, Sydney. As midwives were normal at that time, I guess that is where they were living at the time.
They had four children in Sydney before going to Bathurst (Sunny Corner) gold mining. They must have travelled by coach as the train over the mountains didn't arrive until some years later. While living there they had four more children and in 1970 moved to Grenfell and had two more children there. Donald Duncan was reported in a local paper as owning a crusher and producing gold.(I have a print out).
Janet died in 1909.
