At least three pedigrees published by MyHeritage claim that James Bruce is the son of James Bruce and his wife Euphame Anderson. All three pedigrees identify Dysart in Fife as his birthplace. One pedigree offers 9 May 1594 as his birth date and two offer 13 August 1595 as his birth date. Concerning the first date. A birth or baptism for a child named James Bruce cannot be identified at Dysart on 9 May 1594. It seems possible, therefore, that this date represents an error in transcription. If this is the case then it may refer to the baptism of a child named James Bruce which was registered at Dysart on 9 March 1594. In this particular case the name of the father cannot be identified. Concerning the second date. The baptism of a child named James Bruce was registered at Dysart on 13 August 1595, but this child was the son of Thomas Bruce.

If anyone can bring forward primary evidence of relationship I would be grateful. Otherwise, he should be disconnected from the family tree of James Bruce and Euphame Anderson (who were not married).

Hi Niel on his birth record it says Christening 9 Mar 1594 Dysart and baptism 13 Aug 1595 Dysart.

In the baptism record that you are refering too, you are saying 13-08-17 is the date given in the record, yet in the record it says 3/9/1594. So kindly make sure before you accuse me of fake geneolagy!

Philip,

I have not accused you of making up fake genealogy. Neither did I say that 13-08-17 (sic) was the date given in the record.

Let me remind you. The pedigree you originally published for James Bruce on the MyHeritage website follows:

MyHeritage Family Trees. Bruce Web Site, managed by Philip Paul Bruce (Contact). Birth: May 9 1594 - Dysart, Fife, Scotland, United Kingdom. Parents: James Bruce, Effame/euphemia Bruce (born Anderson). Siblings: Elspot Bruce, William Bruce. Wife: Isobell Bruce (born Fleiming). Son: Thomas Bruce

I could not find a baptismal record for James Bruce dated 9 May 1594 and so I appealed for evidence of relationship. See my original post. You appear now to be saying that the baptism of James Bruce was registered at Dysart of 9 March 1594. That's fine, but the name of this child's father cannot be identified from his baptismal record.

Can you provide evidence for the relationship being claimed? If you cannot you should agree to him being disconnected from the family tree of James Bruce in Dysart.

Sincerely,

Neil

Dear Philip,

Have you found any evidence for this man's ancestry yet?

Sincerely,

Neil
