Dear all,
I have taken the liberty to change the spelling in the top of the project from Russian Odessa to Ukrainian Odesa. I kept the two ss in brackets, so that people can find the title under the old name. I think in the time of the ongoing Russian genocidal war on Ukraine it is important to support Ukrainian city spelling. It is a small thing, I know, but still.

Anna

Dear Anna.
First at all Odessa was established in 1794 by the decree of Empress
Catherine the Great of Russia,on land conquered from the Ottoman Empire,
on the site of the Black Sea fortress town of Khadzhibei.
Odessa was part of the Russian Empire until the Russian Revolution in 1917.
In 1922 Odessa became part of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic.
And the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republics was part of the Soviet Union.
After the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991,Ukraine became independent.
And if you talking about genocide,do you know what happend in Odessa
On May 2.2014?
If not, I will tell you.On this day 48 people been burn to death and over 200
Injured, just because they want to make Russian one of the official language.
Please,please do not rewrite history.

I do not think this is rewriting history AT ALL. This is NO LONGER Russia - Today Ukraine is independent and G_D, it will stay that way ...

Dear Richard,
Let's compromise.
Before 1991 Odessa was 1st Part of Russian Empire, and then part of
Soviet Union..And for almost 200 years the correct spelling was Odessa.
And at the end of 1991 Odessa became part of Ukraine.
So.my suggestion is,if we talking about ourfamilies who live there before 1991
Spell with 2 S,and if they lived after 1991 spell with 1S.
