Uncertain Existence

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Nunnally-75

No sources have been found for the birth or death of Richard Nunnally, his marriage to purported wife Elizabeth Wren [or Elam], or his children. Family trees online, and especially on ancestry.com, include this Richard with wife Elizabeth Wren and/or Elizabeth Elam in Henrico County, Virginia Colony. Children vary, usually including one or more of these: Richard, Daniel, Thomas Nunnally.

No evidence has been located for a marriage of Richard Nunnally to anyone named Elizabeth, or anyone else. No evidence has been presented for a connection to any children -- no will, deed, birth record, etc. Richard is usually said to have been born in Shropshire, England and immigrated to the Virginia Colony. An immigration record for a Richard Nunn is often cited, but again there is no evidence that this Richard's name was ever given as "Nunn" or that his father was named "Nunn."

For more information on the lack of evidence, see the Nunnally Family on the Shropshire Family History Society website. http://www.sfhs.org.uk/forum/nunnally-family

Detached Richard Nunnally, {Fictional} as son of Dr. Thomas Nunnely & Joan Nunnely

Detached wife Elizabeth Nunnally, {Fictional} as daughter of Robert Elam

Here’s from the discussion at http://www.sfhs.org.uk/forum/nunnally-family

There is a book: Our Nunnally/Nunley family: including connecting branches : Ferrill and Biggs, Welker and Niswonger. which mentions this family. I can't see much of it via Google Books, but it appears they haven't even connected back to a Shropshire birth.

I have had some exposure to colonial US genealogies and found a great deal of questionable information, particularly in attempts to bridge the pond. Many people are insistant on assuming a place of birth, which quickly becomes replicated, as described above. When ever I see born in {year} in place, particularly if there are no parents, I am immediatly very skeptical. Although it is highly likely the family are from Shropshire, this is very much a Shropshire surname and is still found here, the genealogical record for this period is sparse. Where there are records of baptism, they are often full of gaps and unreadable portions.

"On page one Ms. Dennison visits the possibility that this line begins with a Richard Nunn, age 19, who arrived from London on the ship "Increase," bound for Boston, in April 1635 or with Thomas Nunn, age 22, who sailed from London on the ship "David" September 1635, bound for Virginia."

So it appears this 1615 birth year has been assumed from this questionable link. To begin attempting to establish a link you'll need to find something to direct investigations in Britain, such as a court deposition, which if they follow the English style, may list age and/or parish of birth.

From https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Nunnally-165

The cited source for Nunnally genealogy noted below DOES NOT CONTAIN ANY REFERENCE TO A 1615 Richard. It names Richard born in 1640 as the first of the line in America. He lists two sons for Richard Sr,: Richard Jr, who married Sarah Akins (very well documented line) and Thomas. No spouse is given but his descendants are well documented as well. Later researchers cannot find any records of a Thomas of 1670.

For more information on the entire family, see this link: https://members.tripod.com/John_North/Screven_i.PDF

Recently discovered: http://genforum.genealogy.com/va/charlescity/messages/333.html may shed some light on Daniel v Richard and suggests they were brother.

Evidence is needed to support possible brothers Daniel Nunnally and Richard Nunnally, Sr. as children of Elizabeth Nunnally, {Fictional} & Richard Nunnally, {Fictional}

The next issue is the identity of the wife of Richard Nunnally, Sr.

Currently seen as daughter of William Wren, Sr. & Elizabeth Steptoe

A technical difficulty I wish to point out is that one can hover over the first profile links but when opening the view 4 more, I can't hover over ANY.... I like to see if I am following any of the profiles tagged to see if there is anything I can add or if I need to correct my personal tree at Ancestry since Geni is my MAIN tree and this is exactly WHY! Because bad trees can be made correct.

I run into Nunnally/Nunnaly fairly frequently but only because I have a direct NUNN and folks smash them! No idea why but thank you so much for working on these, Erica Howton! It is greatly appreciated!

It appears I am not following nor manager of any of these presently tagged profiles. I just wanted to make note of the technical oddity and that I am a Nunn descendant.
