I've discovered many trees with John Povey in them. Most have him as an "Embroiderer", some as the Lord High Judge in Ireland, others both. I'm sure it is only the embroiderer and not the Judge. I believe that is a different John Povey, cousins but a different one. The issues becomes who were John the Embroiderer's spouse, children, siblings, parents, and family crest and who were John the LH Judge's? In my research I've seen (mostly by American's, and yes I'm from Texas so I'm pointing fingers at me) many documents attached to the wrong John when a simple date/location check would prevent this. I think we "colonials" want to be related to nobility/royalty or someone with Arms so much, we get sloppy.

Anyway, I read in my research that John Povey was granted a coat of arms in 1588. That source believes, not supporting documentation, that is was this John who's parents David Povey/Elizabeth Sayer. I believe it was a cousin who was actually the LH Judge as in my thinking that would be a more likely candidate for a CoA. I suppose there could be another John that the CoA was awarded.

Any thoughts?
